Details are sketchy so far, but a Scripps News report has this:
During a campaign event in California, an armed man impersonating a U.S. Marshal was arrested when he tried to approach Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. In a social media post, Kennedy Jr. said that the man was carrying a U.S. Marshal badge, had two loaded pistols in shoulder holsters, and attempted to approach him at a Hispanic Heritage event at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday. "Armed GDBA team members moved quickly to isolate and detain the man until LAPD arrived to make the arrest. I'm also grateful to LAPD for its rapid response," said Kennedy Jr.
There’s not much more at the link; it’s largely about Kennedy’s account of the event, and his complaint asking for Secret Service protection as a presidential candidate.
CBS has a little more:
Police arrested a man who was allegedly posing as a United States Marshal during a Hispanic Heritage Month event attended by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Friday in the Wilshire Park area. Adrian Paul Aispuro, 44, was booked on a felony gun charge and was being held on $35,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Information Center.
NBC has something on this as well:
“He identified himself as a member of my security detail. Armed GDBA [Gavin de Becker and Associates] team members moved quickly to isolate and detain the man until LAPD arrived to make the arrest. I’m also grateful to LAPD for its rapid response,” Kennedy wrote. He added that the man was wearing a U.S. Marshals Service badge. The Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4 that the man in question did not point the weapon at anyone but was arrested on a gun charge and for impersonating a U.S. marshal. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m., the LAPD said.
The Daily Beast has more on the man arrested, describing him as an anti-vaxxer and Trump supporting conspiracy theorist.
..The LAPD identified the accused as 44-year-old Adrian Paul Aispuro. A TikTok video posted in late July bears Aispuro’s name, and features an individual sporting an identical shirt, shoulder holsters, sunglasses, and facial hair as a photo Kennedy shared of the man detained at his rally—and has the same tattoo of the word “FREE” in Gothic lettering across his hand.
There’s quite a bit more on the man at the Daily Beast. It’s not exactly a comforting profile based on the information they’ve obtained.
While I haven’t been following the news that much today, I would think it might have gotten a bit more coverage if only because of the history of the Kennedy family. That it happened late Friday afternoon California time may have been a factor. Given how many more guns are out there now than there were a generation ago, and the widespread cultivation of conspiracy theories, I expect everyone handling security for politicians has to be a bit more stressed by this.
