WTF NBC News? They rush to air Trump comments about Hunter Biden being indicted on gun charges [1]

The NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt led off with the breaking news story that Hunter Biden has been indicted on firearms charges by a grand jury after a plea deal fell through. Granted the son of a sitting president facing arrest and trial is a news story — but what NBC did next crossed a line.
They went right to Donald Trump for his reactions to the charges against Hunter Biden.
The man facing multiple criminal charges over responsibility for inciting an insurrection and trying to overturn an election put on a classic display of Trumpian sanctimony, saying it’s a terrible thing, sorrowfully acknowledging there are two kinds of justice in America, and praising the judge for seeing through the plea deal. NBC interviewer Kristen Welker gazed on solicitously while feeding him softball questions.
(CBS News led with the same story, but only included one brief statement from the Republican side, House Republican James Comer, who was visibly gleeful.)
NBC went on to promote the exclusive interview with Trump coming up as Welker takes over Meet the Press.
Trump is still playing the victim.
Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that it is "very unlikely" he would pardon himself if he wins another term in 2024, adding in an exclusive interview with NBC "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker that he believes he did nothing wrong. "I think it’s very unlikely. What, what did I do wrong? I didn’t do anything wrong," Trump said. "You mean because I challenge an election, they want to put me in jail?" The interview, Welker’s first as moderator of “Meet the Press,” will air Sunday on NBC affiliates across the country. NBC News has also extended an invitation to President Joe Biden to sit down with Welker for an interview.
