Auto AI: Remind me again, full rollout is when? [1]

Driver’s seat: The down-the-road view in this post, from a separate source, I cited:
“… Okay, so imagine you’re traveling on a motorway you in your pod moving at speed, your ‘wheel-less’ transporter seemingly floating on air, and separating the carriage’s underside from the pavement surface below is but a mere centimeters. You are joined by people in countless other pods, all travel conveyances already having had pre-programmed into their data storage and computer banks corresponding destination coordinates. Your personal hover craft takes and gets you to your destination with great speed and agility (without incident, in other words) or damage to the outside air. …”
In case you hadn’t guessed already, what we’re talking about here is auto AI; that’s the application of artificial intelligence in the autonomous automobility space, a platform where humans no longer will need to drive. A prospect worth pursuing most definitely!
Okay, so in coming back down to earth and firmly planting my feet on the ground, I further related, that that future, that picture painted as it is, “… one gets the feeling that with a platform on this order, collisions involving — and emissions from - the motor vehicle platform become a thing of the past, there is no longer any need for an interior steering wheel, the pods will go exactly where they’re pre-programmed to and all headaches will be removed from the automated mobility equation and travel is made good once again.”
As soon as I read this I see tremendous promise. Then, reality fast sets in prompting me to ask the hard questions: How do we get there? And, when will that be?
As to the latter, I’ve heard the chatter, everything from “it’s right around the corner and it’s full rollout is but a mere decade or two away, to it’s not gonna happen — not now, not ever!”
And let’s not forget all the talk regarding the need for regulation to prevent misuse. At this writing, as far as I know, neither is it known what that’ll look like or consist of, nor whom the regulating authority will be. So, no question, a lot of questions needing addressing.
With artificial intelligence generally and Auto AI specifically, the sky (and perhaps, then some — just kidding), really is the limit.
That AI — or at least aspects or portions thereof — has made its presence known, well, that’s a start. And, everything has to start somewhere. And, with everything else that’s had a beginning, there’s a learning curve connected and with this capability, that’s the place we are right now.
Oh, and by the way, in case you haven’t noticed, that presence is one that has manifested itself in myriad ways. So many ways are there, in fact, that to try to list all of them here or anywhere for that matter, would require, you guessed it, AI’s help.
The Thinker: Now that’s what I’m talking about!
