[sigh] Joe Biden is Not Unpopular [1]

[Sigh] This past weekend, Ross Douthat jumped on the see no data, hear no data, speak no data train and asks “Why Is Joe Biden So Unpopular?”

Short answer: He is not.

Longer answer: Refer the the graph. It shows the approval rating for Clinton, Obama, TFG and Biden* over time, ending at week 133 of their first terms.

Biden is above TFG and Obama at this time in their respective Presidencies.

Douthat, et. al. ask the wrong question.** The right question is “Why have the last three Presidents showed significantly less variation in their approval ratings than previous recent Presidents?“

Maybe, just maybe, that is the question Douthat et. al. should be asking...

*Not Bush. 9/11 gave W a bump that gradually dropped over time. See here:
