Extra large bavovna when a drone hits the 240 mm mortar round for one of Russia’s 2S4 Tyulpans.
x Correction from Escadrone, it was not guided counterbattery fire, Ukrainian forces flew an FPV loitering munition into an F-864 240mm mortar bomb sitting on the loading tray of the gun, causing a catastrophic ammunition detonation.

This building was reported to have been military related. Yaroslavl is northeast of Moscow.
x In Yaroslav 🇷🇺, a historic building, built in 1912, is burning to the ground, according to 🇷🇺 news.
The cause?
We are awaiting confirmation if it is because of smokers being careless or because it is Saturday in Russia 🇷🇺. pic.twitter.com/ukCRUBTilJ — Jason Jay Smart (@officejjsmart) September 9, 2023
Count this as one NO vote.

These tunnels can be pretty elaborate.
x A lot of people say "these are not tunnels, they are covered trenches". I consider those to be the same. These trenches are covered with logs and a thick layer of soil. — Def Mon (@DefMon3) September 9, 2023
I came across a video that shows a wounded Russian soldier in a trench. He is making the sign of the cross right before a drone drops a grenade and finishes him off.
I won’t post the video, but you can see it here.
I bring it up to prompt a debate — did Ukraine do the right thing in this instance?
The tweet doesn’t say where this soldier was (was he well behind the lines) or whether Ukrainian soldiers were nearby to take him prisoner and treat his wounds.
The following video shows Ukrainians clearing a trench of Russians. One Russian says he’ll surrender, then throws a grenade. The other Russian wisely surrenders.

This is good progress. Novomaiorske is east of Staromaiorske and Urozhaine.

x Yesterday the satellite imagery showed Ukraine advanced up to and into the northwestern edge of Novomaiorske. I very conservatively mapped this. I could tell from this evidence alone Ukraine had entered the town. pic.twitter.com/M5wDCaeUuN — Andrew Perpetua (@AndrewPerpetua) September 9, 2023
I’ve always wondered two things about this — what kind of person it takes to murder unarmed grandparents and children and what kind of person it takes to be the one who stands behind them and murders the soldiers who refuse to murder civilians.

The prisoners who were given their freedom in exchange for fighting for Wagner continue to cause chaos when they return home.
x Vyacheslav Kanyus, who was sentenced in Russia for 17 years in prison for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, was sent to war with Ukraine
The murderer did not spend even six months in prison when he was recruited for the war.

Kanyus committed the murder of Vera Pekhteleva in January 2020, wounding the girl 111 times, raping her and strangling her. Police ignored 7 calls from neighbors about the victim's screams.
Partisans come in all forms.
A vyshyvanka is an embroidered shirt.
x To hide the vyshyvankas from the Russian occupiers Olena put them in jars and buried them in a greenhouse.
In March, she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in the embroidered shirts they had saved.
