Dear Matthew,
We, at PDA, are certain that the progressive policies outlined in our 21st-Century Rural New Deal would be embraced from coast to coast by the people of rural and small town America, if we can get a fair hearing. After all, public discontent has been consistently high, and economic opportunity low, for decades in rural communities. Long enough that no one who lives in, or nearby, one of the thousands of virtual ghost towns in America, expects anything to turn around.
But we, at PDA, do! As does Anthony Flaccavento, Executive Director of The Rural Urban Bridge Initiative (RUBI).
Indeed, the 21st-Century Rural New Deal's policy proposals, as drafted by PDA and RUBI, would mandate the reversal of a multi-decade trend of disinvestment in small communities across the country. Although there will be parameters for how Rural New Deal money can be spent, community level investment will be decided by the community itself.
