Hi everybody!

I wanted to take some time to reflect on the Dean Scream.

I think it’s important to identify the scream itself as a loser. It’s painful to watch a video where Dean knowingly performs the same shtick before Hillary lost in 2016. Whether one thinks it’s fair or not, basically being a human kazoo did blow any hope of being taken seriously as a prez candidate by a media pool wired for GOP gossip.

Putting that aside, it is impressive how he is able to summon the determination to shout himself hoarse in the manner of a football coach. He is clearly both passionate and competent as a political organizer.

To the extent that there’s something clearly wrong, it seems like he made the mistake of identifying more closely with the party than with the values that his 50-state strategy would depend on. The everywhere at once side of things has not manifested as expected in the last 20 years.

My most optimistic interpretation of the Dean Scream is that he proved you could be fully relatable while serving as a Democrat. Definitely helps pave the way for the Obama/Biden ticket.

Anyway — ladies, gentlemen, and others: have at it. Enjoy your beverage of choice!
