Well, yesterday, after I took my daily trip to Epices bakery on 70th between Broadway and Columbus. (By far the best baguettes in the city.) The street was closed and there were police there. There also were two reporters from Channel 5 reporting from across the street in front of the Stratford Arms Hotel.

I asked them what was going on. They explained that next week migrant families were being moved into the hotel and single migrants now there were being relocated to relatives or a facility on Randalls Island.

Naturally, I gave them my opinion: New York should be better than states like FL and TX which, e.g., in the case of the latter, drop migrants off in DC on xmas eve in 18 degree weather with no plan, or the former, trick them into getting on a plane or bus also with no plan.

Tara Ganeva on Substack being sarcastic.

This neighborhood has not been immune to similar attitudes, but I saw no sign of it yesterday.

After I spoke about this for several minutes, the reporters asked if I wanted to expound on camera, and as an Upper West Side progressive (redundant) I felt obligated to do so. The interview included my views above and my thoughts about the urgent need to expedite work permits for migrants.
