Power over Country: The Pathos of watching people in power cling to the vestiges of their lives as their bodies crumble.
It was this picture of Mitch McConnell when he froze in public for the second time in under two months while speaking at a press conference when I saw it clearly......saw beyond my repulsion and disdain for McConnell who single handedly blocked Obama from placing a qualified judge on the Supreme Court only to ignore his own edict upon which he relied at that time, to rush the appointment of Federalists Society's Amy Barrett securing a conservative majority on the Court having power in this country to override the voting public's desire on policy.
I admit, I saw beyond my wish that McConnell just drop out of sight the "old fashioned way." I saw the pathos of what was happening here.
While I never harbored any hostility against Diane Feinstein during her tenure as senator from California, watching her clinging to power as she literally clings to life has been a major turn off for me about her.
And frankly watching Joe Biden almost limp across the stage during his speech in Philadelphia on Labor Day, where his finally fiery words and person naming was where it always should have been and should continue to be, were in sharp contrast to the strength he lacked in mobility, I cringed as a bet many of us did.
So when I saw that picture of Ol' Mitch, it struck me how pathetic it is to watch these people fall apart before our eyes but refuse to resign and tend to their last years comfortably with family, children, grandchildren, travel, doing whatever they would be doing were they not being consumed literally with the disease of power.
And what about us? I mean US of A. Our direction into the future is left in the hands of powerful people having very little future left for themselves. Free us from having to witness this Greek tragedy which will likely occur more and more often as human life spans increase. We need to have term limits for all governmental elected officials for their sake as well as ours!
