As I think about the upcoming presidential election in 2024, I contemplate the 2020 election. As I was looking through 2020 political videos, I found one just around the time of the Republican National Convention of 2020. While I was watching it, I heard Stuart Stephens say, "Look the Trump Campaign is a criminal enterprise!" That took my breath away because as we all know, this is exactly what District Attorney Fani Willis has alleged in the indictment her grand jury approved. At first, he is speaking about the Hatch Act. In the past, I have heard him say that it's not like nobody on a major political party's nominee's campaign has thought what a powerful background and message that the White House would make for either a campaign/convention speech or a political ad. However, everybody understood how unethical it would be. It would provide an illegal advantage to the incumbent who already enjoys tremendous advantages. It would be using the American taxpayers' money for political purposes without their consent. Additionally , I observe that It also would provide a subtle or not so subtle psychological advantage because it shows the president in his work environment making that person look more presidential than their opponent.
Stuart says, 'Look, the Trump campaign is a criminal enterprise. And what they basically say is , 'Stop us!' They're gangsters and that's how gangsters operate. There is no sense of right or wrong. But you know, one thing I think has always been true about conventions is that they are a celebration of democracy that you may not agree with you are seeing, but there's something about it that even watching the other side you come away with there's something positive about this. But I think one of the threats in this convention is that it's going to be an anti-democratic convention with lower d, anti-democratic because a threat of all this is going to be this is not a legitimate election. And Trump wants to do that for two reasons, one he's preparing to lose because he'll NEVER say that he lost a legitimate race and two they want to be able to lay the ground work to take extraordinary measures to make sure it's not a legitimate election. And I think it just comes down to, you have to ask yourselves, 'If you ask Donald Trump and those crooks and cast offs around him , 'Okay this would end American democracy but Donald Trump could be president?' I think the answer would be, 'What's the catch? I don't get it. ' You know, 'What is the question?' They have no sense of that.'
