Under Gov. DeSantis, Florida has become a socialist state, where has the money gone? [1]

When I read that once again the Biden Administration will be providing billions of dollars of federal funds for another Florida bailout, even though DeSantis snubbed President Biden, I believe the governor must be held accountable for the money he spends.
In fact, according to a 10/3/2022 article by Matt Dixon in POLITICO, DeSantis has proven over and over again, that Florida wouldn’t survive if the federal government withdrew their support. And, yet, DeSantis used billions of COVID Relief money to “fund his top priorities and pet projects,” possibly including sending some Florida immigrants to other other states, including Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
The Orlando Sentinel has written many stories about how DeSantis has spent billions in federal cash with little oversight. (If anyone who reads this is in Florida and has a subscription to the Orlando Sentinel, please write a comment with a paywall bypass, so we can see these stories for free, and I’ll add more.
And, despite the fact that DeSantis, “rejected federal disaster relief for New York and New Jersey in the aftermath of 2012’s Hurricane Sandy”...according to a January 17, 2023 press release from FEMA, “More than $5 billion in federal grants, disaster loans and flood insurance payments has been provided to the state of Florida and to households affected by Hurricane Ian to help survivors jumpstart their recovery.
“FEMA has provided $896 million to households affected by Hurricane Ian and $504 million to the state for emergency response to Hurricane Ian, while the U.S. Small Business Administration has provided $1.47 billion in disaster loans and the National Flood Insurance Program has paid $2.2 billion in claims to Hurricane Ian survivors.”
After Hurricane Ian, the headline in the September 29, 2022 of the Palm Beach post was: Tread on us, please. Florida needs a new socialism-friendly slogan after Hurricane Ian.
And, it truly was an apt headline, despite the fact that in June of 2021, according to an article in the World Socialist, “DeSantis signed into law several reactionary education bills aimed at vilifying socialism within schools. The legislation targets civics education courses in K-12 schools and penalizes state universities that do not bolster right-wing conversative ideology on campuses.”
And, now, due to Hurricane Idalia, DeSantis still is counting on Biden to provide Floridians with another federal bailout. While I support this bailout, personally, I would like to see the following storyline about Florida. (Sure it’s a fantasy, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be true.)
