All the talk about MAGA being a cult started me thinking about the end game. What happens when the spell is broken, the prophecies fail to materialize or the leader is revealed to be a charlatan? There are numerous examples in the not too distant past, and they don’t bode well for the future. Far too many cults have descended into violence, murder and suicide, ending in the deaths of cult members, law enforcement and innocent family members.
Given the size of the MAGA following and their paranoid anti-government, pro-gun attitudes, the potential for widespread violence is quite real. There are already frequent incidents of attacks on law enforcement, government offices and public places frequented by minorities considered to be enemies.
So what happens when all of the minions who carried Trump’s water turn on him to save their own sorry hides? What happens when Trump is convicted and sentenced? There will be a few who realize what has happened, how badly they have been deceived. There will be many more who will refuse to accept the reality and cling to their sense of righteousness and persecution. These are the ones who will not go quietly. They frequently refer to “The Storm”. I fear it is coming.
