I would offer one of my favorite books of all time “Calculating God” by Robert Sawyer. Will not try to put too many spoilers in but basic premises:
Aliens show up to Earth
Some of the can actually talk to “God”
They tell us God’s plan
It doesn’t really care about humans and oh, BTW, those bad things that happen — yup, God needs them to happen to you as part of the plan
Give it a try — was great fun to read for the first time.
He writes in this area frequently — another series, The Neanderthal Parallax trilogy, explores whether religious faith might be a genetic defect.
