Call It Out For What It Is: LAWLESSNESS! [1]

What’s happening in the Georgia legislature — under a Republican majority — with respect to efforts to stop, hinder, or otherwise impact Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis’ sprawling election fraud case, is positively galling.
Georgia state senator, Colton Moore — R, floated the idea of forming a ‘commission’ that would investigate ‘the taint’ of prosecutor Willis’ case. Implying that it was brought for any other reason — facts be damned — than political reasons. All this while mouthing the MAGA talking point that says the only reason Donald Trump has lawyers in the Fulton County courthouse defending him is because of an out-of-control prosecutor! And this is being said about a process that has already gone before a special grand jury, a sort of pre-indictment grand jury allowed under Georgia state law, to assess the quality of evidence being proffered by the DA to a criminal grand jury upon the filing of an indictment.
And those ‘average citizens’ sitting on that special grand jury returned a report that confirmed that the evidence showed the likelihood that Georgia state election laws had been broken.
Meanwhile, what are the msm doing? As usual, being mealy-mouthed about what’s actually happening when partisan legislators — federal and state legislators, respectively — continue vandalizing our institutions as well as our respect for the balance of institutional powers that is the bedrock of American governance.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-OH:
Jordan raised concerns about her motivation in bringing the case and asserted congressional authority to "probe whether former presidents are being subjected to politically motivated investigations and prosecutions." Jordan also indicated in the letter that lawmakers could consider legislation about the use of federal funds by state law enforcement in the future. www.reuters.com/...
GA State Sen. Colton Moore-R, said the following, on Wednesday, 8-30-23:
At the behest of Willis, a Fulton County grand jury indicted Trump and 18 others on charges they attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Trump is expected to be arraigned in Atlanta next week. “I am demanding that we defund her office until we find out what the hell is going on,” Moore said in a petition. “We cannot stand idly by as corrupt prosecutors choose to target their political opposition.” www.thegeorgiavirtue.com/...
Nicolle Wallace — who’s dogged passion at not allowing MAGA-ism to go unchallenged in msm, is a to be admired — waffled for minutes, asking oblique questions of her guests about this effort to target the county prosecutor, that began with “Where do you think this comes from…?” Or, “How do we push back on this…?”
Without ever defining what “this” is? Call it out! This is LAWLESSNESS!
A senator looking for votes to get the legislature to interfere with a legitimate, transparent, inquiry into violations of GA state election law, is LAWLESSNESS!
Jim Jordan, chairing his House ‘Weaponization of Government’ subcommittee, interfering in NY-DA Alvin Bragg’s ongoing state fraud case against Trump, is LAWLESSNESS! And his subsequent public statements about using a federal subpoena to obtain state’s evidence in the ongoing Fulton County, GA, RICO case is, again, LAWLESSNESS!
Meanwhile, Georgia Republicans could launch their own state-level investigation into Willis’ probe, according to GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who has spoken to top officials in the state about a potential probe. She also told CNN earlier this week that she was pushing for a congressional-led inquiry into Willis. “I’m going to be talking to Jim Jordan, (House Oversight Chair) Jamie Comer, and I’d like to also ask (Speaker) Kevin McCarthy his thoughts on looking at doing an investigation if there is a collaboration or conspiracy of any kind between the Department of Justice and Jack Smith’s special counsel’s office with the state DA’s,” Greene told CNN. “So, I think that could be a place of oversight.” www.cnn.com/...
We have to start calling things out as they are. We cannot normalize the vandalizing of our government by mincing words about what we’re all witnessing.
We have legislative representatives that are actively appealing for public support to permit unconstitutional acts of legislative interference in the affairs of the judicial branch. Specifically, interfering in individual cases that these so-called representatives — who all swore an oath to uphold their respective constitutions — don’t think should be litigated by the judicial branch. Why? Not because there are no witnesses; many of Trump’s own people are providing evidence of criminality to multiple cases. Not because there’s no evidence; much of the criming took place in broad daylight and in public view; there’s copious amounts of evidence.
But because the defendant happens to be their political leader, and rather than submit to the facts and reality that their leader does not, and has not, demonstrated any respect for the constitution or the law they claim to hold so dear, would rather subvert that law, and render those oaths of office they took only 18 months ago, null and void, than admit they were conned by Donald Trump. That’s LAWLESSNESS! There is simply no excuse for it. They may use the word ‘politics’ in their propaganda, but this is not ‘politics’. It is manifestations of an on-going insurrection by American citizens against their own government. On the basis of a media ecosystem that has identified an income stream based on providing a captive audience information, about their government and their world, that is factually false, or false by omission. And we need to call that out for what it is.
