Civil Disobedience: Or, I Need Help From The Sharp Wits at DailyKOS [1]

Okay, so, let’s get right into it. I work at a place that requires hard hats and bump hats (basically a lightweight version of a hard hat). You can have two things on your hat: your name, and any certification stickers you’ve earned.

As you may have guessed from the fact this is going up on this website, we have a guy who’s chosen to decorate his hard hat with a dymotape sticker reading M.A.G.A., which is very against the rules but nobody’s done anything.



I suspect this is because HR doesn’t want to deal with him yelling that he’s been discriminated against. And I can’t complain directly, because I run the risk someone will find out it was me and word will get back to him.

So here comes the civil disobedience.

I want to put a similar sticker on my hat with something on it that’s roughly as inappropriate a statement as MAGA. When I’m told I have to remove it, I can say I thought it was okay because this other dude is running around with a wholeass political slogan and “In G-d we trust” taped to his hat. (Only seeing as he’s not Jewish, the word G-d is fully written out.) Then HR has their excuse: they have to treat him the same as everyone else and they can’t ask me to remove stickers from my hat without also making him remove his stickers.

So: what should I put on my hat? Keep in mind I’m not going for hateful or harmful, just something religious/political enough a supervisor will have to say something, and of similar weight to an ordinary political slogan (like, if I put “Republicans kill” that’s definitely going to be seen as more inflammatory than his hat—I need to stay on roughly the same level).
