Good evening on this, the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s I Have A Dream address, delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to a quarter-million civil rights activists attending the The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. I encourage everyone who has not to read/listen to the ENTIRE speech, which in addition to the paragraphs almost everyone recognizes also states “There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, when will you be satisfied? We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.”
In a more perfect world tonight’s diary would be an offering musing on this speech and both the legacy and the work yet to be done to bring its imagery to fruition. Alas, the thing they tell you about recovering from covid being a process and exhaustion even after ‘recovery’ has happened… is real. While I certainly don’t feel like I’m writing in a fog, it IS hard to keep my concentration for any length of time yet.
And so while today’s anniversary is a serious and meaningful one, please forgive me as my mind makes connections to music. And the imagery of Dreams. Come consider music mentioning Dreams in title or lyric, and add your own in the comments. OR music appropriate to the anniversary at hand!
