Street Prophets Friday: The Second Tatra Museum (photo diary) [1]

Well hello there, I just baked a loaf of herb bread and risked chopping up a couple of peppers from the garden into it. My bread baking tends to be experimental, but this time I went the high risk route. Not only am I unsure of how capable of inflicting pain the peppers are, but I baked the loaf in a curious Czech invention. I'm not quite sure if it even baked properly …

Oh, but where is my fuzzy noggin? I'm supposed to be getting a community open thread up and running and here am I with my head full of bread. And this week's diary from your ol’ fluffy friend Marko doesn't really have much of anything to do with bread once you hop over the thin gray line.

Tatra Museum II

… as opposed to the Tatra Museum I, this museum is dedicated more toward the truck manufacturing branch of the Tatra motor company.

A rainy day in Kopřivnice is perfect for exploring Tatra museums

Starting out with a reminder that Tatra started out as a carriage builder back in 1850

The work of the wheelwright

A men’s cap and a leather helmet for motorists from around 1930

A wild triple-axel design by Tatra became the first motor vehicle to reach the peak of Mt. Lysa, the highest peak in the Moravo-slezian Beskyd range.

Firefighter's helmets from before 1928 and a statue of Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters.

An efficient little 1940s firefighter’s pump powered by a T 52 motor from 1931

A book of traffic rules for intersections and a stylish poster

The legendary T 111, only truck that could be relied upon in some of the colder parts of eastern Russia.

Also known as “the building block of trucks” the T 111 had countless conversions to perform a bewildering variety of tasks— pictured here hauling petrol

Tatra also produced a wide range of military vehicles, like the OT 64, wheeled armored personnel carrier from 1962— shown here, the fourth prototype of the carrier used to test motor designs.

Yeah, Tatra's big in European truck racing. But seriously, this is adorable.

And if you know anything about the African Dakar race— you'd have heard of Tatra.

This cutie went on a 5 ½ year expedition across Europe, Asia and Oceania

A bit more info. The T 805 was mostly a military vehicle and mostly known for being loud.

The upper walkways held displays of motorcycles and bicycles— not made by Tatra, but cool nonetheless. Here's one I'm willing to bet that none of you have ever seen before. It's a La Mondiale 500, the only known and registered example of a limited series of merely seven motorcycles made in Belgium in 1928.

A video mapping presentation that played every half hour, but didn’t photograph particularly well.

Thanks for stopping by.

This is an open thread— which rhymes with bread— and yes, my herb loaf turned out really well! I must say though, the peppers just don’t pop.
