I would like to assure you that I don’t work for any of the stores I mention nor do I work for any of the companies that make the products I mention. I just purchase and use them.
Since I was diagnosed with diabetes in December 2019, I have noticed a large upswing in the number of sugar free and diabetic friendly items available in the stores. Sure, there have been sugar free items for a long time like diet sodas and some really awful sugar free syrups, but in the last year or so I have noticed a LOT of new sugar free/low carb/keto items popping up on store shelves. I would like to thank all the people on keto diets for making this happen for those of us who are just diabetics who would like to have some good tasting treats we don’t have to make ourselves.
I grocery shop at three main stores, Aldi, Giant Food and Walmart. For all that Aldi stores are small, they have a surprising number of diabetic friendly products.
Those include at least a couple choices for bread and also a few choices for wraps. I was most surprised to see not one, but two gluten free keto wraps — one made from cheese and one made from egg. They also have nice flatbread and tortilla type wraps which are low carb.
No excuse to deny yourself a sandwich with this many diabetic choices available.
Aldi also carries a large assortment of keto friendly granola type bars which are great to have on hand for snacks or if you are just running late for a meal and need something to keep you going until you can eat properly.
Choices, choices, choices
When I was in Walmart I found keto baking mixes. Thank you Pillsbury!
And for when you don’t want to make a whole cake or pan of brownies there are keto single serve mug cakes and brownies.
There are even pasta alternatives available in both Walmart and Giant Foods. I’ve even seen no carb pasta in my local Dollar Store.
Most of all there is now a large selection of rice cauliflower and cauliflower/vegetable blends. I love to use these as side dishes or as a rice substitute when I make fake Chinese food.
I love that manufacturers have finally noticed that there is a large group of diabetics who would gladly purchase keto/low carb products if they would make them. Have you come across any surprising diabetic friendly products in your grocery store?
