The Grocery Row Garden aka Linear Food Forest is a style of food gardening which takes the ideas of the classic food forest and makes them more intimate and simple to harvest from. It may be more climate resilient than a traditional row garden because the diversity of plants makes it more likely that some will survive and produce under harsh conditions. The dense planting also buffers temperature and moisture extremes, protecting the soil. Grocery Row Gardens typically concentrate on variety and nutrition rather than calories. Calorie staples are generally grown elsewhere in the garden
The Grocery Row Garden section pictured above is planted to Bunching Onion, Sweet Potato, Edible Canna, Mexican Tree Spinach, Pineapple Guava, Moringa, Red Russian Kale, Collards (mostly eaten by a Rock Squirrel), Tatume Summer Squash, Basil, Cassava, and Chard. Many of the leaves you see are on tree branches stuck around to protect the young plants from the harsh sun.
