Our Sweet little Fiona is very ill, and while We have the money to hospitalize her, she has Cat Diabetes and has gone into diabetes mellitus and is currently suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis. The Diabetes is not curable, and so we are looking at giving her a trip to the Rainbow Bridge.
We didn’t expect this, not this soon. She is only 11 years old and came from the streets a scrawny, scared little thing who couldn’t even Meow like a grown cat at Three years old, She would say ‘Mee’ like a tiny kitten. Thus Fiona O’Mallory De Meeps was named and She came to love us, and we her for all her tricks, traps and silly cat ways.
When she first came to us, we got her from Pet tales, a rescue group. She was found on the street, captured, cleaned up, and given a Furever home, but no, that didn’t pan out, and she was found back on the street in Auburn Calif over 75 miles away . She was sent back and found another Furever home. Again, in less than a few months she was back on the street. Forever home Third time was not a charm either as she was brought back “Because she wasn’t a good mouser”. Damn, didn’t know cats came with a resume’.
So we got her, and it was fun from day one. While at the Pet Shop, She managed to get the Sig Others attention and of course she knew that she had the Sig Other wrapped around her little paw. That was one weekend. The Sig other went back the next weekend and lo and behold, Fiona O’Mallory, got her attention again so I was brought in to see if I was ‘acceptable’ to Fiona. We have learned, a cat may like one but not the other but I passed the inspection. Thus Fiona O’Mallory came home with us, this time forever which was rather short in my estimation.
When she got there, her first action of the day was when the Spouse went for “Corporal Cuddling”. We had been told she wasn’t a draper like our Peanut, nor did she like to be held long like Kiwi, she wasn’t crazy about being held for any real length of time above about one minute.
Thus, as the Spouse is “Cuddling her’ Fiona gets that “You make kitty Scared” look and I said “I would put her down (on the floor) if I were you, like right now”. Well, timing is everything and Fiona decide to chomp her Thumb. Ow, and of course the wound was infected and it swelled up. The Sig other ended up going to the Urgent Care and we ended up with a notice on our door from the Cat Police. “Herein lies danger, a mean vicious cat lives with in”. OK, it was note from Animal Services that said we had to hold on and observe her for any sign of rabies for the required amount of time.
Interestingly her first day home, she was in the box, and seemed quite content, when Peanut came over to inspect. She didn’t say anything, and so we thought “OK, lets see what happens”. We opened her carrier door, she steps out, Peanut comes over to sniff, she paffs him upside the head. He looks like “Well I know that means” and walks away. It took a couple of months but eventually she became peanuts companion. His other companion had a massive Stroke a couple of years back, so we were so happy when they accepted each other. Officially She was our Fiona. Of course it was only a few years later that Peanut, aka “The little Blue Dude.” had to make the Trip to the Rainbow Bridge himself.
She was actually quite content for a long time, being the only cat in the house. She was promoted to “Queen Fiona O’ Mallory de Meeps, First Collar of the line of Kiwi, and First Chair of the house Simi”. She ruled with an Iron Paw in your face.
Then the Duke of Dun came into our lives. She tried, she really tried to make him a companion and she even went so far as to go out into the garage and eat his food to convince the Duke he needed her because that was the last place she knew that “Peanut” had gone and he never came back. She would search the house and garage and call for him. When Duke started staying in the Garage, she was excited. Peanut had come back.
But, the Duke was not having it. He simply would ‘Hiss-Grrr” and walk away. She was sad, but that didn’t stop her from trying. We were so happy when only a week ago, they came nose to nose, sniffed, and then hiss-grrred quietly. We thought this was it.
Then on Thursday Aug 18th she become logy and was having an issue breathing through her nose. We made an appointment with her normal hospital but it was too far into the future. All of the animal hospitals and clinics are booked for weeks in advance. So we took her to the one Emergency room for animals in the area. We went there with the belief that she just needed some loving and some medicines.
A couple of hours later, we got the horrible news. She was not doing well and the blood labs came back. High sugar levels in the blood, she was Diabetic, and they said they wanted to run a urinalysis to see how bad it was. Then even worse news came back. She had gone over into Diabetic Ketoacidosis. We could put her in the Hospital for about 8 Grand, but that would not be any guarantee of anything, and she would be suffering the whole time. So as of now, she has only few hours to a day left before have to give her the Kitty Dream like “Little blue dude”. Forever it was not, in fact it was not even long enough. This story isn’t long enough.
Dear Little Fiona,
we loved you from the first time we met
and now it is to be the time last but,
Why did it have to be so soon?
Dear little Fiona,
When we needed to be cheered up, or entertained
You knew what to do to make us laugh and love again.
But did it all have to end so soon?
Dear little Fiona
You stole our hearts and gave us all your love,
You made us happy, and made us better,
Did it really have to end so soon?
Dear Little Fiona
Did you miss the Little Blue Dude so much?
We knew the day would come for you to go look for him
But did it really have to be this day?
Dear little Fiona
We shall miss you for as long we are here on earth.
and one day we shall met you on the rainbow bridge
I just hope that we don’t arrive too soon.
Dear Fiona, We shall send you off,
with all of our Love and Blessing
to Bast, to be by her side, but
Dear Bast did you really need her so soon.
And now I sign off ‘cause I think I spilled a cup of water in my lap.
Oh wait, I don’t have cup of water.
