We will see what happens. For the news, I hope it happens soon; for the personal, I hope it happens.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Archaeologists don’t want to open the tomb of China’s first emperor because of evidence that historically rumored boobytraps actually exist.

Stuffed eggplant. From The Guardian.

It appears the first cattle brought to the Americas came from Africa.

Four-cheese greens lasagne. Again, from The Guardian.

An excavation has begun where 35 German soldiers and a French collaborator were supposedly executed and buried during WWII.

The absolute best diner in each state, according to Reader’s Digest. The one they say is the best in Oregon is about six blocks from where I live.

From the New York Times: how documents are preserved at the National Archives.

The Mediterranean as shown in some of the earliest surviving photographs.

My mother is moved. She is unhappy with the situation, of course, but she couldn’t cope with staying where she was, not matter how much all of us wanted her to stay there. The remaining major problem is what to do with her poor cat, who will initially be moved with her, but she’s not treating him well from what I hear.

It’s been miserable hot here — thankfully, not as hot as was predicted, but still, …. I had to reschedule my chiropractic appointment, which ended up happening on the hottest day we had. My chiropractor would have been happy to let me sit in one of her rooms that wasn’t in use, but I hadn’t had breakfast. I ended up having a nice leisurely lunch in a very comfortably air-conditioned restaurant.

My bank has been a bit haphazard about telling their customers about who deals with checking for invalid charges on cards. Since I had no idea why a company called Shazam would be calling me, I hung up on them. Why they would think my standard sort of purchases from Amazon, of all places, would be invalid, damned if I can figure out. The problem has been taken care of.

Love you guys!
