There was a suspicion that although the indictments didn't hurt Donald Trump in the Republican Party's Presidential Primary, it might hurt him in the general election. That view was strengthened considerably with polls released after the Georgia indictment. With the exceptions of Will Hurd and Chris Christie, the remaining "serious" candidates have not known what to do when they are being clobbered by a guy being charged with 91 felonies. Donald Trump is running with the most blatant weaknesses of any dominant frontrunner of either major political party and his primary opponents don't know what how to run against him. He was impeached twice, lost the popular vote twice, and was the primary or a prominent reason that the Republican Party lost or underperformed in the last 3 elections. A massive amount of evidence against him is publicly available and yet these buffoons don't know what to do.
They are terrified that if they speak out against him, then they will not have enough support to win either the primary or the general election. They still have not learned a goddamn thing. They continue to hope that something will happen to Trump in the primary to cause him to drop out without taking part in that event. They are so concerned with what seems politically expedient for them individually that they miss what is politically expedient for them all, namely, that they should all drag him in the harshest terms possible. Even if it costs them dearly in the short term, denouncing him in the strongest terms possible is the quickest way back to becoming politically relevant. Moreover, not doing that still seems very likely to lead to a defeat anyway. So, if you're likely to lose nationally anyway, then you might as well get something for your troubles and take this exit ramp. Furthermore, if every "serious" Republican Party candidate for president denounces Donald Trump, then the more likely it is that republican voters will accept the truth that Donald Trump committed some of the most serious felonies possible and is a morally bankrupt individual who only cares about himself.
By defending Donald Trump as the victim of a legal system"weaponized" against him when the publicly available evidence makes it abundantly plain that he committed the most serious crimes imaginable, they have damaged their own brands as corrupt politicians with zero integrity. They have aligned themselves with the most unethical, self-centered, immoral, criminal, malignant narcissist in the history of American politics. Holding onto two thirds of republican voters and a minority of independents is wholly inadequate to win a general election. What's worse for these republicans is the fact that the inflation rate has decreased twelve months in a row, gross domestic product growth is good, and job creation is outstanding, and the electorate as a whole is beginning to realize that they are benefitting from a strong economy under President Biden's leadership. As was pointed out by Kerry Eleveld , it takes six months before voters start to appreciate economic reality when the economy is in the process of recovering from a difficult period. However, voters are finally beginning to realize that this is a strong economy and that the rate of inflation has dramatically improved and there is no longer any expectation of a recession. Despite being three years olders than Trump and having a stutter, President Biden, as the incumbent , is well-positioned to defeat Donald Trump or somebody else who has embraced the corruption and immorality of Donald Trump. As time moves on, it appears impossible not to foresee the inexorable domination that Donald Trump will receive politically at the hands of President Biden. Impeaching President Biden when there is no evidence that President Biden has done anything to merit impeachment is only going to turn the vast majority of non MAGA voters against them. Identifying themselves with and covering themselves with Donald Trump is the worst kind of political malpractice when Donald Trump has been charged with 91 felonies and there is so much publicly available evidence against him.
Joe Scarborough of Morning Joe said that felt like June of 1974. He relates it to how his father was so reluctant to disavow Nixon, but eventually the evidence forced him to do so.
64% of Americans say that they're not going to support Trump. His approval rating is 33%. 54% say he threatened democracy itself. 18% say maybe he strengthened it . His unfavorable views are exploding.

"Only 15% of Americans, let's underline this, agree with Donald Trump that he did nothing wrong. Only 15% of Americans agree with Donald Trump that he did nothing wrong. ... And Charlie, the bad news for him (Donald Trump) is the more people find out about these cases, the worse news it is for Donald Trump."
Charlie Sykes, "Yeah, there ought to be a stunning reality check. Now we'll find out whether the Republican Party continues to be immune to reality. This ought to be the moment, by the way, though that, it ought to mark the end of all the magical thinking among republicans that you know something something something you know is going to come along and take care of Donald Trump if they didn't have to do it, then somebody else would take care of the problem,...
