What I learned from reading indictment #4 (GA) [1]

I read (er, skimmed) the GA indictment at www.washingtonpost.com/…
That’s a WaPo link. If it’s pay-walled let me know and I’ll look for an alternate link.
I am not a lawyer. But I’ve been reading the last few indictments so that I can speak intelligently about them to friends (especially R friends) and family.
Here’s what I’ve learned about the GA indictment.
It’s a fast read (skim)
Don’t let 98 pages scare you. The first 12 pages are boilerplate, the list of grand jurors, and the table of contents. There’s a lot of repetition. And many pages have a lot of white space.
It has nothing to do with the First Amendment
Yes, there are a bunch of Tweets/Truths in there. Setting the stage and highlighting the conspiracy.
There are also many, many acts where Trump is meeting with people and/or calling them on the phone asking them to do illegal things.
My comparison would be:
In Texas I can legally carry a gun in my car.
If I get caught speeding, I can also politely ask the officer to let me off with a warning.
But if I brandish said weapon and then ask the officer to let me off, I’m not going to expect them to let me ease on down the road.
It is wide-ranging, but tied to GA
Yes, many acts are included that did not occur in GA, to again set the stage. But many acts cite specific GA laws, bringing the indictment home.
This was a major effort, not a hobby
The number of acts in the indictment is daunting. But it shows the amount of work involved. This wasn’t just a whim. It was a concerted effort to overturn the election. I know some op-ed authors have complained about the number of people involved, the length of the indictment, blah, blah, blah, whine, whine, whine. As a non-lawyer, it holds together better after reading it. This was a broad effort with many pieces in motion. The size of it helps hold everything together, and strengthens each count. Plus, I agree with the pundits that many of the small fish may flip and the number at trial will be reduced.
If the former president had spent as much effort on infrastructure, medicine, etc. we’d all be riding in flying cars and cancer would be cured. /s
Takeaway
Overall, my impression was what I thought after reading the FL and DC indictments. They’ve got Trump dead to rights. And in this indictment, many, many more. Nothing’s over until it’s over. But I certainly would not want to go up against any of these charges. In total, they’re overwhelming.
