I have been following the news about the assorted fires. Not good. I heard something about heightened risk somewhere in the vicinity of Salem. I hope nothing happens there.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

There’s been a 4000 year old cemetery discovered during excavations for a rocket launchpad in the Shetland Islands. This is only one of several articles about it.

Apparently, humans can hear silence.

A dig in China has discovered systematic use of coal about 1000 years before any evidence found previously.

Why adults should read children’s books. You mean there are reasons other than they’re fun?

Excavations at Exeter Cathedral have uncovered the original base of the high altar and a medieval crypt. Along with several other things.

Corvids in the Netherlands appear to be using anti-bird spikes to build their nests.

Eight pink places around the world. Barbie mania has nothing to do with this — except for being an excuse for the article.

What Barbie looked like when you were born. Barbie wasn’t invented when I was born — I was eight when Barbie was released.

Wednesday: I just opened my draft diary to get started, and it came up as it used to instead of outsized with the edit button in the upper right. I am pleased, but I do wonder if it will continue this way.

The family members who handled the arbitration are busy divesting the family of all obligations for the house, since the step-sisters have paid the agreed on amount to be handed the deed.

Consensus has finally got to moving my mother into a smaller place. She will not be happy; but the family that is available and her hired caregivers, with the best will in the world, can no longer cope.

It’s supposed to be 100F+ around here over the next few days.

Love you guys!
