What Will Judge Chutkan Do With Trump Come This Friday? [1]

I’ve stated this many, many times before that I am no lawyer, nor do I know how the legal system actually works. However, I’m hearing a lot of legal analysts, especially those on MSNBC, bring up all kinds of points when it comes to your average insurrectionist or government employee who steals sensitive intelligence documents: they usually end up spending time in jail waiting for their trials to begin. We have seen Trump already give the middle finger to the magistrate judge on the Jan 6th indictments. And because of this “Fuck You!” salute, the government filed for a protective order, and the hearing on this protective order is Friday. Therefore, the big question is what will Judge Chutkan do about Trump?
To be honest, I have no idea what Judge Chutkan will do.
But I do know what Trump will do. Trump will continue to attack any prosecutor, witness, or judge who confronts him. If Trump was smart, he would keep his damn mouth shut and let his lawyers do the talking, but he is incapable of any self control. He is a man who has faced no accountability for many of his crimes througout his life (I include the stiffing of contractors for their work as theft, and he picked up how to cheat on his taxes from dear old dad). Therefore, part of Trump feels invicible and like a king. Trump believes he is above the law.
However, we are supposed to believe from the likes of Chris Christie that Trump lives in terror of ever being held accountable for his misdeeds. According to Christie, Trump dreads the idea of the sound of bars closing on him when sentenced to prison. If that is so, why is Trump violating the terms of his bail and attacking the prosecutors, witnesses, and judges in his upcoming trials? It sure looks like Trump is daring Judge Chutkan to throw him in jail for contempt.
But I keep hearing from those same legal analysts that Chutkan shouldn’t do that, at least not right away. It’s seems some are afraid that Trump will use a contempt charge and nights in jail to fundraise off of. And another idea that is floated is that Chutkan doesn’t want to seem partisan, at least not out of the starting gate.
I thought this was a court of law? Since when are political considerations supposed to “trump” the law? The legal system has already treated Trump with kid gloves (look at how long it took to indict on the theft of intelligence documents). Once again, if I had done that, I would be sitting in jail right now.
So who are the ones being partisan?
The most likely outcome is that Trump will get a warning on Friday from Judge Chutkan. But it will not suffice. As the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, Trump will immediately go out and violate any protective order. A sane person would not do that, but Trump is not sane.
Therefore, I predict that in less than a week, Trump will be giving Chutkan the middle finger salute. Again. And this is the point I am trying to make. You can either protect the legal process, or you can protect Trump. But there is no way to do both.
If Chutkan is at fair and tough as reported, she will have to throw Trump in jail. I don’t know how long she will wait to do this, but it’s going to happen. It’s only a matter of when.
There will be a lot of tearing of clothes and ashes thrown around when Trump lands in jail, but it’s inevitable. Trump is trying to bully the legal system to drop all charges against him. And he is not making legal arguments but political ones. And one thing the legal analysts tell me is that political arguments do not fly in criminal cases.
Trump is a defendent in several criminal trials, and he needs to be treated as one. I’m all for detaining him until his trials start, but I’m just your average Joe. But I’ve seen enough of Trump to be confident that he will continue to defy the legal system. So if Trump gets only a warning on Friday, you can bet this will drag out several more weeks before Judge Chutkan has to cross the Rubicon and jail Trump for contempt of court.
