Sounding the Alarm [1]

Like most of us, I have been watching a lot of news stories about the latest steaming hot batch of indictments served up by Chef Jack Smith this week. I’ve also been observing the steaming hot piles of reactions served up by the other side. And I’m worried.
Whatever else we may think about them, the Republicans have learned something to their advantage over the last few decades, and that is to think ahead and play the long game. Donald Trump is also well versed at planting the seeds of an argument he may need to make in the future to serve his own authoritarian goals.
Let’s review: what do we know about Donald J. Trump?
--He is the consummate narcissist. He cares nothing about anyone but himself.
—He sees himself as a superman, a hero, a savior to his followers (and--tragically--there are millions of people who also see him this way)
--He has delusions of grandeur and aspirations to become Supreme Leader of the universe, one way or another. Why else would he run for President in the first place? Just being a self-serving billionaire was not enough for him.
--His grip on reality is not firm. He is perfectly willing to believe those who suggest he is some sort of gift to humanity
--Donald Trump really, really REALLY does not want to go to jail. I think it is safe to say he will do just about anything to avoid it.
The 2024 Presidential Election may be a true crossroads in our nation’s history.
Trump is already crying foul, claiming he is being treated unfairly (what else is new), playing the victim yadda yadda yadda. But this is what worries me:
I predict that IF he is the nominee, and WHEN he loses, he will use his loss only to bolster his false claims that the system is rigged and that he really won the election by the biggest landslide ever—and that the indictments and trials kept him from being able to run a proper campaign. In other words, his ultimate plan is to further undermine faith in our democracy.
Now with luck all of this childish bs will just backfire and he will run wailing into his corner (presuming he is not in jail by then). But I think we should all be prepared. Our democracy is under serious threat. The fact that he brought it all on himself does not seem to be resonating with a way-too-large segment of the country.
I want to be wrong, but the writing is on the wall, and the clues are in every one of their statements in defense of TFG.
