What if? (Not advocating) [1]

Let me start out by saying that I am not advocating this in any way shape or form. But it does pose an interesting possible scenario. I feel that Trump and the country need a trial and he should be convicted. That said what would be the result if the following occurred.

Joe Biden offers Trump a pardon on all federal charges providing that he agrees to drop out of the race and never again seek elective office.

Now of course Trump could turn that down with the hope that he either gets reelected and pardons himself, another Republican gets elected and pardons him, or he is found not guilty in court. Would he take that risk if he had a pardon in hand?

How would the MAGA crowd react if Trump accepted that offer from their most hated politician? Would they rally around another MAGA candidate or stay home come election day?

What would be the impact on Biden? Would he look like he capitulated? Would he be compared to Gerald Ford regarding his Nixon pardon? Or would he look like someone who did try to unite the country and remove a cancer from our political landscape and the immediate risk of seeing the end of Democracy should Trump get a second term?

And do not forget. The pardon would not apply to State charges so Trump could still be prosecuted on the NY Charges and possible Georgia Charges.

Most of the Republican candidates have stated that they will pardon Trump if elected. This will take that issue away if Biden beats them to the punch.

Now again, I reiterate that I am not advocating that Biden should do this. But the political consequences, should this transpire, would be interesting to see.
