Itzl Alert Network: Tuesday, 8th of August, 2023: Chili! Ha! [1]

I was inspired to make chili, so I did.

As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at, to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off Daily Kos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on Daily Kos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news! This is our current schedule of regular IAN diary writers: Monday: Youffraita Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac Wednesday: Pam from Calif Thursday: art ah zen Friday: FloridaSNMOM Saturday: FloridaSNDad Sunday: loggersbrat

Tomato juice/sauce/soup:

Saturday, I put lots of tomatoes from my little garden in my blender, about four large and four small tomatoes.

I added about one half of one habanero pepper from my garden, and a little salt.

I put that tomato soup in my cooking pot that came with my induction cook top, and set the pot in the fridge.

Ham salad:

Then, before rinsing out the blender, I put in a lot of my free ham, at least a half pound. I ran the blender a little, and then dumped and scooped the chopped ham into a large mixing bowl. I added a half jar of sweet relish, and a large amount of mayo, and some mustard. I have been putting that on whole wheat bread, many times since then. Quick and easy meal, anytime. (I was too tired to cook the chili on Saturday.)

Chili:

On Sunday, I got out the induction cook top, and set that pot of spicy tomato soup on it, and turned it on medium high. I put my free ground beef in the pot. I do not know if it was a pound, or maybe less. I chopped up the patties into chunks, and simmered and cooked it for a while. I added iodized salt, Accent, blackstrap molasses, apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, and turmeric, and Cajun seasoning. I then added one stick of Imperial spread, and one can of refried beans, the no fat kind. I have no upper teeth, so I may as well add beans that I don’t need to actually chew.

(Yes, the chili turned out pretty tasty.) (With no actual chili powder.)

Humor:

A question a comedian would ask:

When we mash potatoes, we call them mashed potatoes.

When we mash beans, why do we call them refried, not mashed?

And why is it that dried grapes are not called dried grapes, but raisins?

Nowadays, with the internet, we can look up the answers to those questions. I wonder if the internet has made stand-up comedy harder?

Other adventures:

So, I have given you my ham salad recipe, and my chili recipe.

Now, as I move away from my keyboard, I plan to make me a batch of oatmeal blueberry muffins.

I also need to make myself a batch of Gatorade, and a batch of limeade tea.

By the way, I actually recorded what I plan to post as my first video of my new YouTube channel, Smarter Prepping With Uncle Mark. I read the directions for my new camera, and set it up on my new tripod, and struggled through my video. I made every mistake you can think of, and some you might not have guessed anyone would make. But I want to post it as is, mistakes and all. That way, my viewers can see the progress, as I get better at it. For example, I forgot to take the lens cap off, until twenty or so seconds into the video. Ha!

I hope you enjoy reading about my crazy efforts at cooking and making videos.

Hugs!
