He does think that no one is going to get him but what keeps him going is that he can imagine never going to prison complete with whatever magical tricks will keep him free. Trump is testing the judge's boundaries, to see if she will enforce her instructions.

Why it matters: If Trump is likely to lose in court in even one of his three — probably soon to be four — criminal prosecutions, he may turn to unprecedented, extraordinary measures for a way out. What's happening: Trump appears to be working on three escape hatches to keep himself out of prison. Delay trials until after the 2024 election, hoping he'll be president again and able to pardon himself. Count on friendly judges to steer things in his favor. Frame every defeat as political vendetta — and trust the Supreme Court will overturn any guilty verdicts. [...] Threat level: If Trump is reelected, he has signaled he will eviscerate the post-Watergate norm of Justice Department independence — allowing him to demand that the department drop the federal charges against him, if they're still pending. He also could attempt to pardon himself.

Several other candidates — including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy — have also suggested they would pardon the former president if elected. Reality check: Everything will need to go right for Trump to avoid a conviction in three — possibly four — courthouses in the next 15 months. www.axios.com/...

x Defendant Trump just attacked Witness Pence again on social media. Why is he trying to provoke Judge Chutkan and the Court?

This cannot continue for long. — Michael Beschloss (@BeschlossDC) August 5, 2023

Previous Guy is not quite clear on the concept

x Yes. Judge Chutkan is not here for games. You have time to tweet threats and attend rallies you & your counsel can respond to the Court in a timely fashion. https://t.co/8TLGHNfoV5 — Sherrilyn Ifill (@SIfill_) August 5, 2023 x So, in a nutshell, Trump’s lawyer filed a motion today telling Judge Chutkan that he needed more time to respond to the government’s proposed protective order—but he has time to do every single Sunday news show. https://t.co/5xEMdYJo5Z — Xeorge Xonway (@gtconway3d) August 6, 2023
