Pence on Face the Nation: 'trump asked me to put him over the Constitution' [1]

Pence on Face the Nation today widened the chasm between himself and trump, making some strong statements against trump and exposing some of the events and conversations that took place in the days preceding Jan 6.

I've had so many people come up to me and just express their appreciation for the stand that we took, by God's grace, to do our duty to see to the peaceful transfer of power. And I'm encouraged by that, I must tell you. Look, President Trump was wrong. He was wrong then. He's wrong now. I had no right to overturn the election. And more and more Americans are coming up to me every day and recognizing that, and- and for my part, I'm running for president in part because, frankly, President Trump asked me to put him over the Constitution that day, but I chose the Constitution and I always will. But I- I truly do believe that, you know, no one who ever puts himself over the Constitution should ever be president of the United States. I knew the founders of this country would never have given any one person the right to choose what Electoral College votes to accept and which ones to reject. I was very consistent with the president about that and my recollections all reflect that, but you know, at- at the end of the day, the president continued to hold to that view, but I knew what my duty was.

… but in more than 60 lawsuits, all of which I supported and in reviews at state levels, there was never any evidence of widespread fraud that would have changed the outcome of the election in any of those states. And at the end of the day, there was an opportunity to hear objections to those changes on the floor of the Congress, but in addition to the loss of life, the assault on police officers, the vandalism of the Capitol, one of the losses on January 6 was that debate, which could have happened on the floor of the Congress before the American people went by the boards

Strong words that undercut trump’s shifting legal defense in the Jan 6 indictment.

Pence dodged most of the questions including the one on the notes referred to by Jack Smith -

I generally didn't make a practice of taking notes in meetings over the four year period of time, but given the momentous events that were unfolding, I- I- I did take a few notes to remind myself of what had been said.

Of course, Pence should have said these words long ago; he is no hero; he wants to be President. He was plugging his candidacy and attacking Biden most of the time during the interview. He wants to do what republicans want to do — take this country back to the dark ages.

But these statements help spread some discord among republicans and that is good for humanity.

Also, trump has been on the warpath with Pence (and practically everyone else on the planet who does not donate to him) hurling slime at him at his untruthful social media platform. Which is a strange way to silence someone who has the goods on him.

Let’s hope this interview and Pence’s testimony will strengthen Jack Smith’s case against trump.

We are in uncharted territory with a dangerous conman and a corrupt fascist party, while a good portion of the country is enthralled to be part of this cult. But the government and our institutions seem to be working, for now. Let’s support them by sharing news and commentary on the indictments and bits of truth that keep coming out even from republican mouths, with our friends and family and keep reminding folks that the republican party is rotten to the core and they will take the country back to the dark ages if we let them. Our children and grandchildren deserve a better world and it’s our job to make it so. GoTV.
