Judge Chutkan orders trump to respond to DOJ’s Motion for Protective Order by 5 pm on Monday [1]

No nonsense Judge Chutkan, on a Saturday morning, has given trump until 5 pm ET Monday to respond to special counsel Jack Smith's motion for a protective order.

Jack Smith's motion for the protective order was filed yesterday partly in response to trump’s threatening posts on his untruthful social media platform. It is not a gag order and is part of a broader motion to enable delivery of case discovery material to defendants and to protect that material from being misused by trump and his cohorts, as we all expect he will do.

The following was part of the rationale for the protective order in the filing by Jack Smith and his team — that trump is very likely to misuse discovery materials to intimidate or influence “witnesses, judges, attorneys and others.” The threat post by trump was included in the filing. Apparently, trump and his lawyers walked it back a bit with the laughable excuse that the threat was against the Koch organization and other republicans.

Trump's lawyers responded today asking for an extension to file a response to the motion for the protective order from Monday, August 7 to August 10 "to ensure counsel has adequate time to prepare a fulsome response."

Jack Smith swiftly filed a motion asking the Judge to deny the delay.

Despite the conditions and admonishments Judge Upadhyaya laid out on Thursday (www.dailykos.com/...) esp. about not committing any crimes during his release, trump was spewing out deranged and threatening statements during a GOP dinner last night in Alabama —

We are in uncharted territory with a dangerous conman and a corrupt fascist party, while a good portion of the country is enthralled to be part of this cult. But the government and our institutions seem to be working, for now. Let’s support them by sharing news and commentary with our friends and family and keep reminding folks that the republican party is rotten to the core and they will take the country back to the dark ages if we let them.
