Professionalism and how it's lacking in too many republicans; join us at The Village, 8/2/2023 [1]

The motivation for this diary didn’t start with Edgar Martinez, my favorite Mariners’ player. However, he’s a good example of someone with professional ethics, behavior and action. On the plus side, the picture of him exudes good vibes, versus posting a pic of one of the many republicans that exemplify unprofessionalism.
My motivation for this diary started when I saw the news about this utter lack of professionalism in Seattle. The racist, fake tombstone is just out of this still pic to the upper right. The video linked in the article shows it.
x The Office of Police Accountability is now investigating the complaint. Basic questions about who was responsible are still under review.

“This is a huge setback in trust," said CPC co-chair Joel Merkel. “The community needs to see that the police department shares its values, and that's a critical piece of rebuilding the trust." The department is inspecting all its facilities to make sure no other inappropriate items are on display, but the call for answers continues. “I want to know why this happened. I want to know why it was allowed to continue. I want to know if anyone was held accountable. I want to know what is being done so it never happens again,” Stephanie Butts said.
I really doubt the investigation will show who is responsible more specifically than the officers assigned to the station. Look, I get that there are racist, bigoted police, but how were they able to display a MAGA flag, hat, and the tombstone? Those items don’t belong in any public servant’s office, and I’d say the same if they were related to Democrats and liberal policies. Call me naive, but this story shocked and disgusted me. Whoever is in charge should be held accountable and ALL stations need to continue to be inspected regularly. Professional standards for appropriate office displays AND uniform should be created/improved and disseminated.
That story got me thinking and seeing an utter lack of professionalism in too many people — usually republican office holders who are paid far too much to be acting the way they do. I’m not that concerned about young people who are still figuring out what professional behavior is, I’m talking about people making 6 figure salaries with good benefits who are supposed to be public servants.
I’m thinking about these people, and trust me, I could have posted plenty more but don’t want to promote them too much. It’s this kind of behavior that is the most shocking and irritating to me. As much as I disagree with their policy views, I’m looking at their behavior that is unbecoming of public servants, especially well paid ones.
Incredibly rude, why couldn’t she have taken it back to her office and tossed it in the trash there?
x Lauren Boebert is an asshole. She was handed a pin honoring the victims of Uvalde’s mass shooting & she THREW it in the trash. No acknowledgement. Just threw it in the trash. This is how a sitting Congresswoman treats gun violence victims. Beneath contempt.pic.twitter.com/7uN98DVmzh — Victor Shi (@Victorshi2020) July 18, 2023
What! This is the behavior of a 15 year old that thinks they’re all that.
x Here is a screen grab of the latest tweet, by a sitting Congresswoman, calling the appointed special counsel a "weak little bitch." The lack of professionalism and class is astounding. pic.twitter.com/WOWVHDXJgK — Amee Vanderpool (@girlsreallyrule) July 18, 2023
I went back and forth about this one, but I settled on it being unprofessional because of his lies about his father’s life story, and lies about donating his salary to vets. Also, putting his silly politics ahead of the country’s safety.
x Key point in this article is that Tuberville "said he has faced "zero" pressure from his party to back off his blockade" that is clearly hurting our military readiness.
That's right folks, "zero" members of the GOP care about our national security.

Justice Alito has been unprofessional for many years.
x President Obama didn’t criticize Justice Alito at the State of the Union; Alito mouthed “not true” in response to a passage in which Obama criticized a specific #SCOTUS decision.
Oh, and Chief Justice Roberts _still_ called that episode “very troubling.”
How soon we forget...

This on the other hand is what I appreciate in a public servant, the willingness and courage to speak out against inhumane policy directives. It was well written and he brought several examples of the injuries being caused by the illegal barricades in the Rio Grande river. He also explained why, in these situations, he wasn’t willing to do as he’s instructed. In reading it’s obvious he takes his job seriously and wants to do what’s right.
x My name is [REDACTED] I ama very proud Trooper and Medic for Texas DPS. I love this State and this Department. I fully understand the mission of Operation Lone Star and completely agree that we need to secure the border from bad people. I want to inform you of some of the issues — Joel Montfort (@jmontforttx) July 19, 2023
Do you have any favorite examples of professionalism and unprofessionalism?
