Top Comments: Road Trip Edition [1]

Starting on Sunday, my family and I will be taking a two week road trip mostly down the eastern half of I90/I80. My mom and I be spending the first week at the annual NHL Booster Club Convention in Columbus, OH. Besides the fun jigsaw puzzles, games and themed dinners that happen every year, we will be taking a number of trips around Ohio. We have plans to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, visit the Ohio Amish country which includes with an Amish family, and go on a sunset safari tour at the Columbus Zoo. While my mom relaxes one day, I will join a trip to visit Nationwide Arena, home of the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey club, a whiskey distillery and chocolate factory. as the only member of the NY Islanders Booster Club attending, it will to me to perform the functions the president of the club usually handles at the convention. Additionally, I hope to be able to get my weekly infusion so I don’t miss a week considering what we have planned for the following.

The follwoing Sunday, my mom and I will drive from Columbus to Des Moines for the Iowa State Fair. My sister will fly out from Newark and meet us in Des Moines on Monday. There we will stay at a bed and breakfast, a favorite thing for us to do when we travel if possible. The fair is a bucket list item for all of us but for different reasons. My mom and sister want to go because of hearing about it from Elvis Duran and his crew who sometimes broadcast from there. I wanted to go to see the soapbox although it seems none of the presidential candidates will speaking on the soapbox while we are there, so that really sucks for me. Some will be interviewed by Gov. Reynolds on one of the days we are there, so I am hoping to get to watch that. My eyes may fall out from all the eye rolling I will do if I get the chance. I will avoid wearing anything that displays my political leanings but I am likely to wear some Islanders tee-shirts so people will know where live. Hockey is a rich white persons sport mainly, so people might think I lean right. Yeah, right. LOL

We purchased tickets to see Jeff Dunham, who will be performing while we are there. Other things we will likely check out are the tractor pulls and other similar events. I will be taking my picture with the butter cow. I am interested in seeing all the livestock exhibits and whatever kind of museum stuff they have. Not sure if I will do any rides, but I am open to it.

Of course no visit to Iowa State Fair is complete without lots of eating. I plan to try as many fried foods and foods on a stick as I can. I also hope to find some unique foods to sample.

Since the drive back to NY will take approx. 20 hours of driving alone, we plan to overnight somewhere along the way. We are tentatively planning to stay in either eastern Ohio or Western PA depending on when we leave Des Moines. My mom would like to spend the weekend in Atlantic City rather than going straight home, so we will see who wins that discussion.

What does this mean for my writing for Top Comments you ask? It means I will be off for the next two Tuesdays. Hopefully someone will pick up my spot, but whether someone does or does not, you will see me back here on 8/22. So until then, enjoy the heat, the humidity, the thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes and stay safe.

Oh yeah, I knew there was something I forgot to mention. Another indictment dropped. I say this with a bit of a side eye, finally. Should have happened last year. Usually I would say better late than never, but with an election coming up quickly, it really needed to happen much earlier.
