They're Not Buying What You're Selling. [1]

How and why do you decide that it’s time to let the crazy people in your organization take over? What prompts that decision and is it taken with no apprehension for the possible futures it might bring about? Are we talking doom inspiring demographic changes or shock at the idea that a progressive government might take away some of your money to help maintain the roads you use or possibly make other people equal to you in all ways? Perhaps it was the fear of losing your gas stove.
How do you go from being the “Grand Old Party” to just shy of “Ghostin’ Outta Prison” in one damn decade and a half?
What am I talking about? Ah, well, it seems the republican state operations in Arizona and Michigan are, to put it mildly, financially embarassed.
But, why? They were flying high, pre Trump era. What heppened?
These are/were core republican areas. In the south, why, NO ONE proved to be further up- errrm, behind Mr. Trump’s position than Arizona. They even went to a very expensive bat for his Election Lie. That cost them money and reputation.
And Michigan, less heat on the old pate, perhaps, but seriously worried about losing their white “King of the Hill” position on the snow pile- they also backed Trump rabidly- that cost them too.
In Arizona, the republican party spent so much of it’s money trying to “Own the Libs” by stealing the governance of the nation from them that it seems they can’t really be effective in the upcoming general election.
Michigan has been so wild and loose with their cash flow that the word “Bankrupt” has been applied to them- by them and donors are shaking their heads saying “Oh, no, no, no… no.”
In Colorado, the Denver Post reported that the GOP state organization cannot buy office suplies or make payroll.
Why?
Because for me or anyone to buy what you sell, it needs to be something of need or something of worth and apparently, the donors, large and small, are finding neither in places that spawned Kari Lake and a home grown terrorist cell that wanted to kidnap and kill a liberal governor. That and the sheer unelectability of the Big Lie Trump people.
People donate for hope or for more of the same. Believable hope they aren’t finding, only empty promises and cajoling “Hey, come on, let’s give it ONE MORE TRY- we’ve got them on the RUN!”
I’ve always wondered how long the faux rage could be sustained. It’s looking like we’ll soon find out.
I don’t, personally, think every republican is absolutely stupid or soul numbingly evil, but after the support shown over the years for so many reprehensible, cruel actions and policies- that is about as charitable as I can get.
But the thing about spending the treasure is it has to be replaced. Even or maybe especially when you spend it irresponsibly. People are watching.
That isn’t happening. That’s a problem- for them.
If hate, Nazism and Racism aren’t your idea of good legs for a mainstream, winning politcal party to stand on, you aren’t going to pay for what they’re hoping to achieve- nor do they seem competent to get the OTHER things you might be in accord with them on. So, why give them more money to waste? Apparently, the stress of being broke and the accusations among their own people have even come close to causing fist fights in Michigan. My, what lovely people- the finest.
And people are watching all of that.
It’s a sad state of affairs.
How could their own people see them hungry and not feed them, know of their nakedness and not provide clothing- how could they leave them with no backing in a cold and barren landscape? Well, they ARE republicans and they don’t really believe in funding failure for very long. Especially when the people failing perennially show no signs of changing their views or ways. They bought the flag, they WANT a white homeland and DAMN reality!
Most people don’t like crazy. Sure, IF that crazy is pushing the train they’re on faster and straighter toward a goal they have, some folks will go along with it- with the idea that it can be steered and then tossed away once the goal is reached. But when you’ve lost and decided to, embarassingly, insist on lies, then refuse to stop spouting things that everyone but Trump accepts are just idiotic in an effort to keep the money flowing- well, soon enough that money will stop flowing.
The republican party is selling lemonade with no sugar and the people really have a taste for sweet, blue raspberry. Who wants to be a sour puss? There is only so much “You’re crazier than a drunken loon” people will put up with while signing checks.
It isn’t only at the state level, I think- I hope.
Have you seen the clown show that is the lower house? How could you not? Now, I know a few republicans, grew up with one of them as my brother, once. One thing I can tell you is that they hate being laughed at, they detest being made to feel that someone, anyone, thinks they are the fool. “Send us money, it’ll work this time!” eventually caused even the thickest of the thick to wonder “Do they think I’m stupid- or are they the idiots?”
When the jig was up, the coup failed, republicans should have dropped Trump and moved on but the promise of their very own dictatorship was just SO tasty to some of them- Like a dream burger, they couldn’t find it in them to put it back on the plate despite knowing it was laced with arsenic
Nationally and among the states, this willingness to hang onto views and policies that America will never again say yes to is proving to be their downfall.
Abortion- no one wants it made illegal. They want to talk about it in church, be morally outraged by what is none of their business and beat liberals over the head with it but- and it is a big but, if their daughter or they themselves decide they need to get one, they want to be able to.
America as a whole doesn’t want to see any gay marriages annulled- We don’t want any more race wars, we’d like to get police that don’t think they are our masters on the forces and really, that horrendous stuff we are hearing from the Rio Grande is just sick makingly evil. A stain on our nation. It might not be making the faithful sick, but moderates know they want to be able to talk to their neighbors one day and say “No, I was against babies drowning in a river while seeking asylum.”
They may be fine with a supreme court that is bought and paid for- as long as their people are doing the buying and paying, but they DID expect the justices to be a little bit under the radar. Now, everybody is aware that the court is corrupt and it was, yes, republicans that made it that way.
Large donors are making noises about donating to individuals because the republican organizations are not to be trusted with their money. They don’t handle it with the care that the people who acquired that money would- at least, not in the now- perhaps in the future. Their own party can’t be trusted. How delightful!
No one likes to be associated with glaring incompetence and hateful, vindictive, time wasting actions. No one. They might not say it in front of the team, but the team isn’t there when they are stroking their checkbooks and wallets, making the decision to fund a party or only give to certain candidates. It’s so embarassing, especially the waste part, oh, and the parts they pulled from middle school aged mean kids that they insist on doing in a very public, public. That part is embarrassing too, so much so that I’m wondering if we’ll be seeing a national slowdown in donations to the republican organization/candidates? A turning away from them more marked than we’ve already seen? Perhaps a landslide or an avalanche.
Most avalanches start with a tiny disturbance.
Here’s hoping this is the whimper that brings it all down!
Have the day you deserve and be well.
