Posted an article yesterday on Spirituality and the use of “Christian Nationalist” and WWJD(What would Jesus do)
This is to discuss further the use of the term “Christian Nationalism”. It’s a label. We cannot avoid labels as it saves a paragraph or two on trying to say something. Any label is short hand to expedite a discussion. One comment I received was that we should not use labels as christens. Try having a discussion about what “saved” or “baptized’ means to a “non-believer” with a person new to christian jargon. 2000 words or less would be the challenge.
When someone uses “Christian Nationalism” , they end up having to defining what it really means and whom it really includes. So, it unintentionally becomes jargon that doesn’t even work for the intended audience(us “crazy libtards”, just gonna own the label). And it doesn’t work against the other intended audience(not even sure what label works).
Here are the two problems. First “Christian” could mean christianism, xism(just figured out this, go figure), anti-christian, hate filled christens, and many more labels. It unfortunately is so broad it include people not meant to be included. Liberal christens, agnostic marginal christian, CS Lewis christian, non-political Christens that are the real thing, hate filled christian, non-christian christens, political/power based christianists. It really at most capture maybe 20% of what the label intends(in combination with the “Nationalist”).
My personal label I think is depending on the day, spiritually based christian, agnostic marginal christian, CS Lewis christian, “crazy libtard” christian. Definitely not religious, church attending, believing the bible as the word of god christian, power based, etc.
Second “Nationalists”. Yes I know it’s intended to be used together with “Christian”, but any word also has an independent meaning. Yes it has a more global political government style in meaning, but taking at it’s core it can also mean someone who is proud to be American, proud to have served in the military, proud to support America as a new immigrant. Proud we have a functioning democracy Proud of our Nation. It’s intended to mean isolationists, promote America at the expense of the world, wreck democracy.
The use of “Christian Nationalism” perhaps includes 80% of people unintentionally that do not fit the jargon. It seems to be meant to have derogatory meaning, but it is seriously missing the intended audience(at best 20%).
Once I understand the intended meaning, I think there is a better term for both. Christian” is better stated as “Non-Christian”, “Non-Christian christian”, “Anti-christian”. My favorite is “Anti Christ” as it uses christian jargon(the Anti Christ is basically trump), that alludes to following a false prophet and worshiping a false prophet in christian jargon(talk about jargon!).
And “Nationalism”. Politically this is simply “Fascism”. Much more correct in what is intended. Nothing more or less. Not even gonna expound on this.
Done with my 2 cents for the day. Have a fun, productive and kind day. And I really mean this.
