Republicans Prepare to Impeach Pres. Biden [1]

As House Republicans prepare to meet for the last time before their August recess, House Republicans will be debating on whether or not they should expunge former President Donald Trump’s impeachment, and whether or not they should impeach President Joe Biden for unproven charges of financial misconduct. This should not surprise anyone, but it should also cause us much concern. This is nothing short of an attack on the Presidency and our Constitutional arrangements.

A Mission of Revenge

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has even suggested that the Republican’s probe into the president has risen to impeachment inquiry. McCarthy admitted that he has not proven the claims that when Biden was vice president, he participated in a bribery scheme with a foreign citizen in order to advance his son Hunter Biden’s business. McCarthy says, however, that an impeachment would allow Congress to get to the truth of the matter. To the naive, this seems perfectly logical. However, for those of us who have watched the Republicans closely, what is happening is a stitch up: Republicans have been hell bent on avenging Trump’s impeachment, and took control of Congress with a view to training their resources at the President and finding some way to try and get him. Republicans see this is a tit-for-tat escalation whose goal is to frighten the President and the Democratic party into standing down, and not investigating any of Trump’s crimes and misdemeanors.

Wiping the Stain on Trump’s Presidency

Vengeance alone is not enough, Republicans want to expunge Trump’s impeachment, not because Trump is innocent, but because they are beholden to him. We have already heard so many stories about how Republican elites think Trump is an idiot , or even dangerous and that they support him out of fear . The Republican Party has become the Party of Trump, and Trump cannot stand the fact that he has been impeached twice. That is a stain on his presidency that he does not want to remain. Not only that, he needs to stain another president, a man whose presidency has been defined by the absence of scandal, with the same taint of impeachment. This is why Republicans have moved higher up the food chain, from attacking Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Attorney General Merrick Garland, to attacking the president of the republic.
