Nothing personal--but I don't like you, Associated Press! [1]

I love this site. I can basically divide my adult life into two halves: before and after I discovered Daily Kos during the runup to the 2008 election. No more did I have to writhe and fume in silence as I listened to incomplete, biased, or downright false political news! Here was a community of like-minded people with whom I could discuss the election or other political events. It was tremendously liberating and dare I say good for my mental health.
I see Daily Kos as similar to sports broadcasting. I don’t even pretend to be fair-minded when it comes to my favorite team, the Democrats. I’m biased and I know it. I’m also reality-based—I want to learn the facts, but I want to learn them in a safe atmosphere where I can celebrate or commiserate with my teammates here on DK.
When George W. Bush won, when Obama won, and when Donald Trump was finally ejected from office, this was the first place I came. I come here both in good times and bad. Perhaps especially the bad—it’s the bad news that I want to hear from my friends, not my foes—or the “fair and balanced” MSM.
Which brings me to my complaint today. Unlike almost every other writer on DKos, the relatively new “Associated Press” moniker is not a personality. Its stories are stories I can read on any other news source. If I want “just the facts” I know where to find them. But I don’t come here just to read the facts. I want to read the facts presented in a humorous way and from a like-minded perspective. If the Hunter Biden story is going to blow up, I want more than just the facts—I want someone to make me feel better about it. If my team has a bad day, I want to hear about it from others that I know feel the same way I do.
The magic of Daily Kos is that it adds in the human touch. “Associated Press” is not human. If it were up to me I’d get rid of it altogether and let ordinary members report the news. No loss.
