WV Governor Jim Justice endorses Trump by doing his impression of a drunk [1]

West Virginia Governor, Jim Justice, is a Trump guy who urged Joe Manchin to vote for Biden’s $1.9T stimulus package in February 2021. If you find that confusing, you should listen to his endorsement of Trump’s 2024 presidential bid. This morning on Twitter (or X as it is now called) explained his rationale. He tweeted (?) a video under the rubric:

The leadership and success exhibited by President Trump could not be more different than what we see today under Joe Biden. I support President Trump and firmly believe he will be our nominee and be re-elected as our next President.

So far, it is boilerplate and comprehensible to people not from West Virginia. However, Justice soon discarded easy comprehension in favor of a rural idiom that would have sounded appropriate in a performance of Dark of the Moon but which will leave most Americans wondering if Justice was impersonating a drunk — or was just inebriated. He starts:

“Surely to goodness, Americans understand, you know, loud and clear the leadership, whether you like him or didn’t like him, that came from President Trump and the successes that happened, you know, when he was our president versus what we have today.”

Of course, Justice does not enumerate “the successes that happened” — an odd verbal arrangement implying Trump had nothing to do with the successes, merely that he was President at the time. I am sure that was not what Justice meant to convey. He continued:

“I mean, what we have today is just, I mean, you know what it is today. I mean, for God’s sakes, a’ living, and I mean, you know, if President Biden were my father, I would not allow… there was no way that I could allow him to embarrass himself and continue on this job. There’s no way. I mean, President Biden is really challenged and sad and, you know, others are pulling the strings in every way."

Justice is 72, which would make Biden an 8-year-old father. Not something that typically happens, even in West Virginia. Jim then specifies some of Biden’s failures:

“But anything we touch almost is becoming toxic, whether it be Afghanistan, the border, all the different things, energy on and on and on. Inflation, just one thing right after another, whether it be crime or woke in schools or I mean, it is everything we touch turns to doo.”

I am sure when he says “we” Jim means “he”. However, even then, he is being disingenuous. No American soldiers have died in Afghanistan in almost two years — the last time that happened was 22 years ago (well played, Joe). Inflation is way down . The predicted surge in immigration with the expiration of Title 42 did not occur. The murder rate is down 5% from 2022. “Woke” in schools is a Republican fantasy. And the only “doo” appears to be between Justice’s ears.

Then he appears to run out of “folksy” gas as he ends up sounding like a regular English speaker.

"And then there’s people that don’t like President Trump’s personality. Well, they don’t like my personality. But with all that being said, I think that President Trump will be the nominee and I think he’ll be our next president. And I’m very hopeful of that."

Justice is not nearly as well educated as another faux populist, the Oxford-educated Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), who would have you believe he was suckled by alligators and raised by nutria rats. However, he did attend Marshall and graduated from its business school with an MBA. Note: Justice attended on a golf scholarship — not exactly proof of backwoods cred.

Here is Justice in his own words.
