Parodies of The Ballad of the Green Beret

Silver wings upon her purse

These are fools/Americas worst!

Thousands stormed our capitol that day/ but only one wore the pink beret

Thats why i love and you should read Drew Curtis' Fark.com. That brought this article on.

Ballad of the Green Berets topped the album charts in 1966 and the title track reached number one and number two, respectively, on the pop and country charts. Despite the Hollywood heroism of the hit single, the album offered an occasionally gritty portrait of the war and, unlike Johnny Seay's American Reflections album from the same year, focused on the dedication and hardships of American men and women in Vietnam rather than explicitly political or patriotic concerns. Sadler wrote all of the material himself, and his sentimental vignettes struck a chord with Americans who were desperate for a less-contentious perspective on the war. Greg Adams, All Music Guide

“The Ballad of the Yellow Beret“:

This is a protest against protesters:

Fearless cowards of the U.S.A

Bravely here at home they stay

They watch their friends get shipped away

The draft dodgers of the Yellow Beret

Yellow streaks up and down their spines

Men who gladly stay behind

They won’t fight for the U.S.A

They fought hard for the yellow beret

Men who faint at the sight of blood

Their high heeled boots weren’t meant for mud

The draft board will hear their sob stories today

Only the best will win the yellow beret

Back at home a young wife waits

Her yellow beret has met his fate

He’s been drafted for marching in a protest

Leaving her his last request

Put a yellow streak down my sons back

Make sure that he never ever fights back

At his physical have him say he’s gay

Have him win the yellow beret

The yellow beret

Yeah the yellow beret

Ok, sign me up. I got yellow streaks down my pants!

My high heeled boots aren't meant for mud Nope, these boots are made for walking. And that's just what they'll do. One of these fays they'll walk all over the Canadian border.

“Fearless cowards of the USA, they fought hard for the Yellow Beret” Cant make that shit up, but someone did…it should be spineless cowards of the USA and shirked hard for the Yellow beret, at least if I was the writer.

Ballad of the Chickenhawks

Fighting soldiers each day die

Fearless men killed for a lie

Men who must in danger walk

Just to please the Chickenhawks

Chorus:

Yellow bellies, shaky nerves

These are men who didn't serve

As hundreds more die in Iraq

No danger here for the Chickenhawks

Born to live off other's sweat

Loving war, ain't seen it yet

Men who want war round the clock

Courage lacks in the Chickenhawks

(Chorus)

Back at home more wars to plan

A Chickenhawk feels like a man

The widows who are now left

Crying out this last request:

Put yellow wings on my son's chest

His Father was America's best

He never will in danger walk

If he is a Chickenhawk Remember GW bush? Well, fuck him and his F 102.

Courtesy Mark Hoolihan The Marching Song of the Covert Battalions Here we are, seeking out the Reds

Trying to keep the communists in order

Just remember when you're sleeping in your beds

They're only two days drive from the Texas border

How can a country large as ours

Be scared of such a threat

Well if they won't work for us

They're against us you can bet

They may be sovereign countries

But you folks at home forget

That they all want what we've got

But they don't know it yet We're making the world safe for capitalism

Here we come with our candy and our guns

And our corporate muscle marches in behind us

For freedom's just another word for nothing left to sell

And if you want narcotics we can get you those as well

We help the multi-nationals

When they cry out protect us

The locals scream and shout a bit

But we don't let that affect us

We're here to lend a helping hand

In case they don't elect us

How dare they buy our products

Yet still they don't respect us

We're making the world safe for capitalism

If you thought the army

Was here protecting people like yourself

I've some news for you

We're here

Ok i give up on trying copy pasta that.

Landsdale 76

Frightened soldiers from the sky

Screaming "Hell I don't wanna die,

You can have my job and pay,

I'm a chicken any old way!

Silver Wings upon their chest

These are men, America's best

One hundred men will jump today

And only three wear the green beret

(The rest will have parachutes)

SILVER WINGS (GREEN FLIGHT PAY)

Silver wings upon my chest,

I fly my chopper above the best.

I can make more dough that way,

But I don't need no green beret.

Tennis shoes upon his feet,

Some folks call him "Sneaky Pete."

He sneaks around the woods all day,

And wears that funny green beret.

It's no jungle floor for me,

I've never seen a rubber tree.

A thousand men will take some test,

While I fly home and take a rest.

And while I fly my chopper home,

I leave him out there all alone.

That is where Green Berets belong,

Out in the jungle writing songs.

And when my little boy is grown,

Don't leave him out there all alone.

Just let him fly and give him pay,

'Cause he can't spend no green beret.

And when my little boy is old,

His silver wings all lined with gold,

He'll also wear a green beret,

In the big parade St. Patrick's Day!

FORT HOOD THREE'S ANSWER TO THE GREEN BERETS

We were asked to fight a war,

We were told to pledge our lives,

We stand firm, said the Ft. Hood Three,

We won't kill the Vietnamese.

Side by side we walk as men,

Brothers one, until the end,

Black and white we think alike,

We will save but not take lives.

For all those who heed our cause,

Tell the world we're not alone,

Rally 'round and help us min,

Stand with us and we'll all came home.

We won't fight a war of lies,

Help us fight for what is right,

We want all the peoples free,

Shout the valiant Fort Hood Three.

MEN WHO DIE

Sing if you will -- to America's best

With silver wings -- upon their chest

Then of pris'ners -- in a torture cell

Sing of the land -- we've made a hell.

On our way -- we bravely go

Toward what end -- we little know

War drums roll -- neath a dark'ning sky

"Come, young men -- your turn to die."

Trained to play the super race

Trained to scorn a darker face

Trained in all the ways to kill

That small nations may know our will.

In a hut a young wife waits

Not knowing what has been his fate

Not knowing if she too will live

Where bombs are what we have to give.

Sing if you will in this bitter hour

Sing of the men gone mad with power

Then of the child, the sun, the grass

Of better days that could came to pass.

But on our way we bravely go

Toward what end we little know,

And war drums roll neath dark'ning sky

"Come, young men, your turn to die."

That ones pretty good. All those from the Italian site antiwar songs .org

Sadlers original

Too jingo for me. I understand the pride of working that hard for something and succeeding, and “De oppresso Liber” is truly noble. If thats all they did, mighta got me.

Then, you have the whole elite unit debate. Sure, Green Berets are going to fuck shit up. But to get even a brigade of them you have to strip 100 companies of Americas best, potentially fucking them over and removing their leadership and competence.

It takes a light hand.

The end of the song is depressing. You just know that kid is going to want to be a gay hairdresser, a sportsball star, scientist, poet or whatever. He'll feel really boxed in. Just sayin'.
