The Choir is Talking to Ron DeSantis [1]

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis polished his teeth and hair and made nice with CNN anchor Jake Tapper in a televised interview Tuesday. Like most would-be opponents of Donald Trump Governor DeSantis was careful, cool, and vapid. When asked about Mr. Trump’s illegality, he diverted the focus to black prosecutor Alvin Bragg of New York. It could be argued that Bragg’s case is the weakest, but Bragg’s color is a happy coincidence for DeSantis’ appeal to the MAGA(s) he hopes to capture. Of course, for Ron DeSantis, the discussion was a welcomed reprieve from his smelly ‘vowel movement’ of the word woke. Instead, he got to sound like every other cowardly Republican and spew the term “weaponization.” He ignored Trump’s liability for sexual assault, indictments, and, so far, proven and impending charges against Donald Trump, involving sexual assault, stealing government documents, subverting a peaceful transition of presidential power, and possibly extorting at least two [ Georgia and Arizona] state officials.

While denying climate change and Florida sinking into the gulf, its homeowner’s insurance structure following close behind, DeSantis is also ignoring the sunshine state’s ranking as the state with the highest inflation rate. While DeSantis was busy chartering buses and using planes to help out Greg “concertina wire” Abbott in Texas, books, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community watched their rights leave faster than Mickey chased by Goofy. Woke and lying seem to be the dual tracks DeSantis wants to ride into the White House. It is galling to see the Jake Tapper(s) of the world sit idly by while Gov. DeSantis parrots the GOP talking point (lie) of up-to-birth abortions. DeSantis got a bit confused when he added a darker shade to the white lie when he said, “in some liberal states, you actually have post-birth abortions — and I think that that’s wrong,” said DeSantis.

It would have been easy for Tapper to point out the extraordinary circumstances it takes for an OB/GYN to allow a post-birth death of a baby. Still, he let the infanticide lie sit in the viewers’ minds.

Ron DeSantis is not alone in his misguided fealty to a man embarrassing the country with his every public utterance, with few exceptions. Seeing Tim Scott take a knee is more than ironic. Nikki, Vivek, Doug (Burgum, if you need a reminder), and the rest of the posterior worshippers tremble at the thought of a post or nickname from Trump. Chris Christie is the latest conservative darling of liberals, but let us not forget he got sick, literally for Trump, and still backed him. Former Governor Christie used his contracting Covid-19 from Trump as a story of Trump’s callous disregard but conveniently left out his continued support of Trump’s candidacy. Nikki Haley held that mantle—for a while as the most popular conservative in liberal circles when she took down the Confederate flag that flew in South Carolina. Nikki Haley is currently polling last amongst Republican candidates. It should not be surprising because she has flipped and flopped about Trump more than a South Carolina Striped Bass.

If America wants to avoid another disastrous Republican in the White House, let us not elect someone who is Trump-light or, worst, Trump scared.
