It’s plain to see that the republican party is an absolute mess right now. Their leading candidate for POTUS is currently indicted for mishandling of presidential records, including some classified documents. He’s likely on the verge of being indicted for his involvement in the J6 insurrection, AND the strong arm pressure for votes in Georgia. This is in addition to his more personal legal problems with E. Jean Carroll, falsifying campaign records, and tax fraud.
Additionally, it’s quite clear that “Leader” McCarthy has his hands full trying to hold his caucus together. Between the vulgar infighting, there’s also political infighting and power moves.
Locally, republicans have also had a slew of problems. Where they’ve embraced ridiculous power tripping in the cause of ‘white being right’, (also widely known as racism), in Tennessee where their victims became national heroes, and in Florida where Hispanic/Latino workers have fled the state.
Not satisfied with their ability to oppress women and girls, they’ve moved on to book bans, normalizing hate & oppression of LGBTQA, and anti-democratic laws.
For your viewing pleasure I’ve included some recent examples that highlight what a disaster this party is right now.
x Republican Ken Buck, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, confirms to @NBCNews that Marjorie Taylor Greene has been kicked out of the group. — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 13, 2023
x NEW: It seems @TSSAA finally got around to making a rule to try to protect refs from ref-pantsers like @tnhousegop caucus chair @JeremyFaison4TN, who faced no consequences for almost exposing a ref in a gym full of children. (H/T @Kreager)

x NBC News confirms: Prosecutors in the Arizona Attorney General's Office are investigating the transmission of an alternative slate of electors by Trump allies in Arizona to Washington to be counted on Jan. 6, 2021. @MSNBC — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 13, 2023
x Judge Beryl Howell orders Rudy Giuliani to pay $89,172.50 in attorneys fees to Georgia election workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman…and threatens to hold him in contempt of court if he doesn’t comply with obligations to turn over more documents. pic.twitter.com/ro7C3y6LPc — Anna Bower (@AnnaBower) July 13, 2023
x Imagine that being a thing that you want to go back to allowing airlines to advertise fake prices

x BREAKING: Matt Gaetz being investigated by House Ethics Committee -- reviving an earlier investigation into sex trafficking, lobbying violations, and bribery.
Whatever deal Gaetz made to avoid this, it looks like Kevin McCarthy has unmade.

x Wow. You can’t make this up.
My opponent, Kevin McCarthy, just said that the arrest of the GOP’s “whistleblower” for being an alleged Chinese spy, makes their case even stronger.
He’s delusional. Voters in our district are ready to vote Kevin out. pic.twitter.com/ofBcPag5kT — John Burrows (@JohnBurrowsCA) July 13, 2023
x The Freedom Caucus is once again tying Kevin McCarthy in knots. He seems resigned to it.
A long-bipartisan defense bill is now a polarized slugfest. And a government shutdown fight looms...
My latest (and first solo byline!) for the @LAtimes:

x MTG, who is not a member of the Armed Services Committee, says Speaker McCarthy promised her an appointment to a House-Senate conference committee on the defense bill. So she voted for the bill after saying last night she was a NO.
"I want this opportunity," she said pic.twitter.com/kD7KBcKhYa — Manu Raju (@mkraju) July 14, 2023
x They may claim it was because she accused Lauren Boebert of plagiarizing her articles of impeachment and calling her a little bitch on the House Floor, but the truth is the Freedom Caucus gave Marjorie Taylor Greene the boot because she’s team Kevin McCarthy & too establishment.… pic.twitter.com/rAcGU7kkeL — Christopher Webb (@cwebbonline) July 7, 2023
x TUCKER: “You are distressed that the Ukrainians don't have enough American tanks? Every city in the United States has become much worse over the past three years…Where's the concern for the United States?”
PENCE: “That's not my concern.”

I so enjoy laughing at these tools, and I wouldn’t hesitate to post my usual Simpsons’ HAHA meme after each and everyone of these tweets. However, they are still a dangerous party that we must take seriously to muster the votes needed to hold them in check.
Case in point:
x NEW -- > Lake County GOP Chair and congressional candidate Anthony Sabatini: "We need to extinguish the Left."
Sabatini's vision includes "defunding government schools and going to 100% private schools" and "gutting the FBI like a fish."
Stay tuned for #TheUndercurrent... pic.twitter.com/DgwujXGlz2 — Lauren Windsor (@lawindsor) July 12, 2023
It’s rhetoric like this that has led to the cold blooded murder of dozens of people throughout the country. The competition to be THE MOST OUTLANDISH is almost unbelievably out of control. Those brief moments, right after the J6 insurrection, when we thought the party might shake themselves out of their stupidity are so long gone. I feel almost naive to think they might use that opportunity to rid themselves of their cult leader.

I feel reasonably confident that Democrats will prevail in critical elections next year, including for the White House. It is encouraging to read stories that push back against the false narrative that more voters actually support republican policies.
x Fascinating: A focus group of Minnesota swing voters flatly rejected DeSantis's anti-LBGT video and rhetoric, with many viewing it as "troubling."

Stop privileging the far right in this debate. The sane center opposes this culture war madness.

republicans themselves believe this too, hence the quest to be as base and outrageous as they can imagine. They’ve fallen for their own damn propaganda! Gerrymandering, and the built in bias of 2 Senators per state make it appear that the majority of voters support republicans. It’s actually not true, but they don’t see it, or care to see it. Their appeal to hate is all they can offer now, and a majority of voters aren’t comfortable with that or approve of it.
