Good evening fellow Kos members! My name is Kenny Boddye, and you all helped me flip a majority-making local seat in Virginia four years ago! Since 2020, I’ve been working with my Democratic colleagues to invest in our schools, build transit options, expand mental health, and plot a more equitable, sustainable future in my community. All during a global pandemic.
It’s been a very productive first four years, and I’m up for re-election this year, and I have a MAGA-style Republican challenger who is trying to unseat me and undo all of the progress we’ve made.
Worse yet, she’s already resorted to negative campaigning, misappropriating the words of one of my running mates, all in an attempt to score political points by sowing division.
In her mind, celebrating the prospect of our county — the largest majority non-white county in Virginia — electing it’s first Black Woman Chair is racist. Makes me wonder what my opponent thought when folks celebrated the historic appointment of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to SCOTUS, Kamala Harris’s election as Vice President, etc.
Representation matters. No amount of censorship or cynical politicking can erase that fact.
I hope I can count on your support to fight back against this atrocious brand of politics.
