And no, it ain’t Virginia Govenor GLUNGKIN. Drum roll please. It’s Senator Tim Scott of SC!

CNN — South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott – whose presidential campaign announced this week that it has more than $21 million in cash reserves – is getting fresh attention from deep-pocketed donors looking for alternatives to the front-runners in the GOP primary, people familiar with the outreach say. Scott met late last month with billionaire businessman Ron Lauder for dinner in South Carolina, two sources familiar with the discussions confirmed to CNN. The two men, accompanied by one aide each, met for about an hour outside Charleston and discussed Scott’s background, his path to the nomination and how the 2024 race is shaping up, one person said. They have talked again in recent days, the source said. So far, Lauder – an heir to the Estée Lauder cosmetics fortune – has not made a commitment to back Scott or anyone else in the GOP nomination fight, a source familiar told CNN. Lauder, a long-time friend of former President Donald Trump and financial supporter of Republican candidates and causes, made clear last year that he would not support Trump’s bid. And his recent interaction with Scott – now considered to have long odds of becoming the GOP’s standard-bearer in 2024 – underscores that some big GOP donors remain dissatisfied with Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is running a far second behind Trump in many polls.

And it is not just Lauder — friend of Trump and former supporter — who thinks Tim Scott is the shining knight to slay the dreadful dragon that is Trump.

Next month, Scott is scheduled to get face time with more Republican donors at a fundraiser organized with help from Andy Sabin, a metal mogul who said he has switched his support from DeSantis to Scott. Scott is “the only candidate running for president that I’ve met that nobody has something bad to say about,” Sabin told CNN on Thursday

MSNBC had reported last week that the GOP cash cows were souring on poor old Ron DeSantis. And it seems that CNN has picked up on this news. However, while Scott sounds like he is sitting on a pile of cash that he raised since he jumped into the race, it’s not the case. A bunch of that cash is from Scott’s last senate run in 2022. Technically, Scott only raised $5.8 million last quarter.

Therefore, I cannot say that Scott is going to be showered in fountains of gold just yet, but DeSantis has scared the money grubbers with his mismanagement of the largesse given to him so far.

Another sign that the donors are giving Scott a look is Trump’s latest response about Scott’s candidacy:

Former President Donald Trump praised Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and said the 2024 candidate may be a good fit in Trump's own administration if he wins the White House. Trump made the comment during an appearance on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" with host Maria Bartiromo. Trump complimented some in the Republican primary field during the interview, saying he believed that many of his fellow candidates were "talented" people, and hinted that he was already having thoughts about a potential running mate… "Do you see yourself perhaps with the senator, Tim Scott?" Bartiromo pressed. "I think he's a very good guy. And we did opportunity zones together. It's never been talked about. It's one of the most successful economic development things ever done in this country. And Tim is very good. I mean, I could see Tim doing something with the administration, but he's in right now campaigning…. But Tim is a talented guy, and you have other very talented people."

This is Trump telling Scott to give it up, and if he kisses Trump’s ass, Trump will make his HUD secretary, just like Ben Carson. See? Black folks have a place in Trump’s Administration!

Also, it is another sign that Trump does not take Scott seriously, nor should anyone else. What has Scott really accomplished in the Senate? The only time he came close was trying to work with Senator Booker on policing reform, which was killed on orders of the the other Republican senators.

Scott fulfills the stereotypical role for black conservatives. He pushes the old “pulled himself up by his bootstraps” myth, and the fact he is a senator PROVES that we do not have structural racism in America. Just look at Clarence Thomas.

And while South Carolinians seem content to have him for their JUNIOR senator, I cannot see the national Republican base giving Scott the time of day. He serves a role for Republicans in sending the message that African Americans are poor because they are lazy. Why spend government money on lazy people?

But make the guy president? Republicans voting in a black man for president? Last time I checked, Republicans freaked out because the nation did vote in a black man for president. I suppose their excuse is that Obama had a funny name and was a Democrat, but if he had been Tim Scott…

Oh fucking please.

Trump knows this, and it is why he really doesn’t take Scott seriously. And if Scott starts to really pick up some money, Trump will fire some other not so polite insults to remind everyone who is really in charge of the GOP.

As for the media, I’m sure they will roll with this possible switch of big money to Scott. Hey, it breaks the monotony of the present narrative that “Trump is king, and DeSantis is his ottoman.” Even though it was the media that made DeSantis the previous great white hope.

Funny how things change.
