There are a lot of reports today that Ukraine has captured Staromaiorske. If this ends up being confirmed it would be substantial. Staromaiorske is on high ground in the southern front.
x Several Russian military-related sources claim that Ukraine has retaken Staromaiorske, Donetsk Oblast. However, there are no official or visual confirmations of the Ukrainian presence in the settlement. pic.twitter.com/9p3tFfGPzi — Euromaidan Press (@EuromaidanPress) July 16, 2023

At Klishchiivka south of Bakhmut, Russia has reinforced the village but Ukraine controls the high ground just west of town so Russia is in the precarious position of doubling down on a losing hand. Ukraine has responded by aiming an attack toward the village of Andriika, which is along the road to the south of Klishchiivka.
x 2. The remaining Russian forces outside of #Klishchiivka are dug-in along two east-west tree lines in front of #Andriika. After Ukraine saw that the move to reinforce #Klishchiivka had weakened the Russian position in the tree lines, the Ukrainian command changed plans and pic.twitter.com/XSwgdgVJo6 — Tim Hogan 浩勤 (@TimInHonolulu) July 16, 2023
Here’s more from the Twitter thread above:
3. the 3rd Azov Assault Brigade attacked the northern and southern tree lines simultaneously after quickly approaching with APCs. They secured the western ends of the tree lines and then withstood a massive Russian artillery barrage to attempt to force them to step back. 4. If Ukraine takes #Andriivka by continuing along the tree lines, Russia's last supply route to #Klischiivka will be cut as the result of the earlier Ukrainian advance that cut the supply line from Bakhmut. If Adriivka is taken the Russians in Klishchiivka will eventually be 5. forced to withdraw or in time starve because with Andriivka taken all the approaches to Klishchiivka are on lower ground than Ukrainian guns that will hold fire control over all lines of supply. Because Bakhmut is shaping up to be the Waterloo I predicted before the 6. February 2022, invasion #Gerasimov and Shoigu will likely throw a lot of forces into the battle for Klishchiivka to trying to hold it even at a high cost and with little hope of ultimate success. With more Russian generals showing signs more mutinies are 7. possible, Putin and his high command can't afford to lose Bakhmut and they also can't afford the mounting costs to hold it.

The naval base at Sevastopol in Crimea was also attacked with drones. Russia claims it repelled the attack, but there is no word yet about whether anything was successfully hit.
x It's noisy in Sevastopol this morning. In the bay near Chersonesos maritime UAVs were recorded. In the video, defense is trying to shoot down a maritime drone.
The governor said that Sevastopol was attacked not only by maritime drones but also by air. pic.twitter.com/NCGcc7xqmq — NOELREPORTS 🇪🇺 🇺🇦 (@NOELreports) July 16, 2023

Oleshky is on the east side of the Dnipro River across the Antonovski Bridge from Kherson.

x Remains of the convoy that was hit yesterday. There is additional footage of burned corpses and killed Russian personnel which I won't include. It appears Marines from the Caspian Flotilla were among the soldiers in this column.

Whatever it was, it was Russian and it blew up.
x Something Russian explodes on the Zaporizhzhia front. (Usually air defence systems explode like this, but still, it’s unknown what exactly it was)

Another general gets a pink slip.
Stay out of tall buildings, Vladimir.
x It looks like purges in the ranks of the Russian army continue.
Russian sources say that Major General Vladimir Selivestrov, who commanded the 106th Airborne Division, which is now located in the Bakhmut direction, was fired. As claimed, due to "unaccommodating character".
