Every writer should speak out on behalf of Leonard Peltier [1]

Year after year, decade after decade, millions of people from all over the world have called for Leonard Peltier to be released from federal prison. Leonard Peltier is an American Indian activist who has suffered from a tainted and controversial trial where race became a large factor in a jury convicting him for a crime he did not do.

Leonard Peltier is a grandfather, and activist, author, accomplished painter, a social justice hero nominated seven times for the Noble Peace Prize. How can it be that such a noble character languish in federal prison for 48-years?
Why would Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Archbishop Desmund Tutu, Dalai Lama, Coretta Scott King, John Lewis, Harry Belafonte, Robert Redford, Willie Nelson, Ringo Star, Dick Gregory, Sting, Stevie Van Zandt, Silent Bear, Peter Gabriel, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Brian Schatz, Senator Mazie Hirono and countless other religious leaders all over the globe call for the freedom of Leonard Peltier?
Imagine if there were no voices clamoring for the freedom of Nelson Mandela? Without the large collective outcry, Nelson Mandela would have spent his whole life in prison. Today, the freedom of Leonard Peltier is in our hands. We must become a consistent, collective voice for justice for Leonard Peltier.
Every writer, every investigative journalist who believe in social justice, should learn the plight of this innocent man—Leonard Peltier. When the truth be known every writer has a duty to speak out on behalf of Leonard Peltier.
