Derp State Now, Derp State Tomorrow, Derp State Forever!!
Remember that MAGA judge who last week decided the federal government was censoring right-wing views and banned the feds from talking to social media? Here are some of his choicest deep state derp gems:
I guess “Honorable” now means Deep State derp all the way down. “Doughty” indeed.
..What is really telling is that virtually all of the free speech suppressed was “conservative” free speech. ….Faced with unrelenting pressure from the most powerful office in the world, the social-media companies apparently complied. …..The Plaintiffs have outlined a federal regime of mass censorship.
I said “some.” This next one takes the cake. It’s the cream of the crop; the cat’s mee-ow of all things GQP; the scrumpdiliumptious MAGA-anti-Vaxxer’s-are-bananas split:
The evidence produced thus far depicts an almost dystopian scenario. During the COVID-19 pandemic, a period perhaps best characterized by widespread doubt and uncertainty, the United States Government seems to have assumed a role similar to an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth.” The Plaintiffs have presented substantial evidence in support of their claims that they were the victims of a far-reaching and widespread censorship campaign
Jokes aside, this preliminary injunction was insane. From top to bottom, from its rationale to its conclusion of law. It is something right out of Infowars. But its effect was crazy like a fox: it blocked routine cooperation between social media and the feds about election security and other issues. Y’know, the Derp State.
Well, the Honorable Terry A. Doughty — yep, that’s his name. You can’t make this up — uhm, Doughty’s order was appealed and today the 5th Circuit issued, with no comment, an emergency stay. Routine cooperation about election security and other issues can now resume.
For now. A different three-judge panel will hear arguments on the merits in an expedited hearing, and after that there's always the possibility of appeal to the Supreme Court. :(
But today is Friday, and for now our election protection can proceed! :)
Speaking of protection...

For Every Action there is an Equal and Opposite Reaction
FDA approved OPIL, the first over-the-counter birth control pill.
For people in the know, this is apparently a BFD. And who am I to argue with those who knows?
With this approval, the U.S. joins the over 100 countries that allow people to purchase birth control pills without a prescription. Here’s a nice map showing that (before we joined):
Notice something?
In the dark orange countries you need a prescription for birth control. The light orange countries sell the medication over the counter. So, we — the most advanced and prosperous country in the world, doncha know!— left our exclusive G7+ club and joined the nations that are poor, developing and overpopulated.
Hm. They also have unstable states or backsliding democracies…..
Anyways, Opil, has some downsides: it can increase the risk of breast cancer, lead to excessive bleeding and must be taken in the same 3-hour window each day. But it doesn’t cause explosive diarrhea, and that’s a definite plus.
And it's been around for half a century! I guess the world's poor, developing and overpopulated countries — and now the Greatest Nation on Earth!™ — think it’s a fair trade-off.
But never fear, conservatives are here to save us from ourselves. You can count on red-state attorneys generals to soon file suit, and try to stop the FDA in its tracks in a friendly venue. “Calling Judge Kacsmaryk. Calling Judge Kacsmaryk!”
The good news the drug has been available in the U.S. since 1973. That’s quite an uphill battle for legal reasons I think I may have understood the last time I checked. But who knows, maybe Jude Derpy Doughty will issue another injunction. Hope springs eternal!
More seriously, there are so many ways for women, even in red states, to get birth-control and abortifacient pills, it's gonna be really really hard for the red-state governments to stop access to those who want it.
Even though they’ll try their level best. Hey, if first you don’t secede, try, try again.
