Thursday GNR: Bidenomics for All [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2023-07-13

Last week I left out a particularly important Bidenism: Rebuilding the economy from the middle out and the bottom up. Even Republicans like the results, when that means economic growth in their districts that they can crow about after voting against it.

x Tommy Tuberville is pleased with Alabama's broadband funds. John Boozman secured $2.2B for Arkansas roads and bridges. Robert Adenhart lauds $1.6M bridge grant. All these Republican hypocrites voted AGAINST President Biden and the Democratic Party's Infrastructure and Jobs Act. pic.twitter.com/sWCHgKNHaG — Tony - Resistance (@TonyHussein4) July 12, 2023

Column: Bidenomics has been a boon for working class voters. Why don't they give him credit? Energy prices? They came down by 20% in May compared with a year earlier. Fuel oil prices fell by more than 37% and gasoline by 19.7% in the same period. This month has seen further declines, with the average price per gallon down to $3.54, according to the AAA, a drop of 29.6% from the peak of $5.03 last June. Lower-income workers were the chief beneficiaries of Biden policies and the general economic environment in recent years. Those earning an average of $12.50 an hour recorded a gain of 6% after inflation from 2020 through 2022, Politico's Victoria Guida reports. Now we just have to make sure that we get the word out on the good we are doing and will do for all of them, and on their politicians’ hypocrisy, to everybody remotely persuadable, especially in swing states and districts. And GOTV as hard as possible to the Woke, those who already get it. And the semi-Woke, who get it, but haven’t been voting. And anybody who remembers or has heard about the successes of FDRonomics or Trumanomics or Great Societyonomics.

x During the midterms Republicans wailed about the recession that never materialized.

We were in a period of high inflation which is coming down except for the corporate greed keeping prices artificially high.

And so much more. Rural broadband and renewable energy investments (manufacturing and rooftop solar, and EVs, and...). I will have much more such news on our next Renewable Tuesday.

Remarks by President Biden on Bidenomics

You know, I’m here to talk about what we’re doing to invest in America — and I mean invest in America, all of America; it’s starting here South Carolina — and to talk about the progress we made building an economy from the middle out and the bottom up, not trickling down. When you build from the middle out and bottom up, everybody does well, and the wealthy still do very well. With that trickle-down economy, not a whole lot dropped on my dad’s kitchen table growing up. It’s all part of an economic vision for this country.

I have started writing a series on real economics for Readers & Book Lovers. I just have to work out a schedule with them, and then we can get stuck into Adam Smith, and Walras on supply and demand coming into balance, and Pigovian taxes on externalities, and the Unbalanced Budget Amendment, and Universal Basic Income, and Medicare for All, and...Well, you’ll see.

Let’s hear it for Bidenomics!

I will spare you the Chicken Littles and Debbie Downers in the Wrong-Wing media like the National Review and worse, and the Bothsiderists in the MSM. And Larry Summers, who has successfully predicted a dozen of the last zero recessions.

Oh, BTW, you should continue to ignore approval polling, which has Biden at 35%. Every time things get better, the other side screams louder about him going far too far, and our side demands that Biden isn’t going far too far enough. You just can’t make some people happy. Something about attachment to desire, it must be.

A Great Jobs Report and a Vindication of Bidenomics

Today on TAP: Now, the Federal Reserve should just leave well enough alone. This economy is about as good as it gets. Real wages have begun to rise, especially in the service sector, but not enough to cause general price pressures. The inflation rate, measured by the Consumer Price Index, rose at an annual rate of just 1.2 percent in May. Inflation has averaged 4 percent over the past year, but has been steadily declining. The main weakness in the economy is the result of some problems of failed regional banks, but that reflects feeble bank regulation and not macroeconomic factors.

Yes, wages are rising faster than inflation. Dark Brandon and We The People have killed Reagonomics dead. We still have more than 40 years of that oppression to undo, and centuries of racism, but we know how, and we’re on it.

Get ready to move over, Webb. The partially built Very Large Telescope in Chile is even more humongous.

ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) is a flagship facility for European ground-based astronomy. It is one of the world's most advanced optical telescopes, consisting of four Unit Telescopes with main mirrors of 8.2m diameter and four movable 1.8m diameter Auxiliary Telescopes. The telescopes can work together, to form a giant ‘interferometer’, the ESO Very Large Telescope Interferometer, allowing astronomers to pick up much finer details of the cosmos than would be possible with the ATs or the UTs alone.

Why? Because the core collapse and supernova explosion were not symmetrical, and gave the resulting neutron star a kick of several hundred km/s.
