Should you use dehumanizing language, how about actually killing people? KILLERTAINMENT part 2 [1]

So I wrote a diary a while about about a YouTuber, Mercado Media.

Just to tell you my own bias before you look at the material.

In general I like this guy, I like him because he is a vet, offers critique based on his experiences, has a pretty good presentation as a solo YouTuber and is very pro-Ukraine. Plus, he actually traveled to Ukraine to donate a truck to the Ukrainian forces for the war that his channel financed, so he has a good community and is doing REAL work it seems in support of Ukraine.

I have 2 issues with him, one is that he seems to glorify through his production of videos the violence of the war, I talk about this in my first post about him.

Two, he has some kind of silly rivalry with some other pro-Ukraine channel (which sucks IMO, I have seen it) that is trying to sue him or something so once in a while he is talking about serious stuff about the war then he diverges into this childish rivalry with some of YouTuber basically a flame war, this kind of thing is immature IMO and trips me out when contrasted with the seriousness of his other content.

Anyway, I digress…

This guy is actually in Ukraine, he is the real deal meeting with real Ukrainian supporters of the war and helping. Then he reveals that he might have the chance to film himself on the front lines firing a mortar at the actual Russians. (see 9min mark and its 30 sec after that)

Holy Shit.

I mean, sure, I guess if you are going to support the war might as well actually try to kill the enemy. But he’s a YouTuber building his channel, he’s like a war influencer or something. I dunno. I just thought it was weird to go from sponsoring a pick-up truck for the Ukrainian defense forces to firing a mortar and filming it. I mean do the Ukrainian forces have a drone out on the battlefield that can correct his shot? Or will it be corrected and the drones get to film him killing people? Does he get an extra sub, donation, nice trophy for reaching 1mil subscribers for his kill shot?

I hate the Russian invasion, I like this guy for actually participating in what he is supporting, not just talking about it. But Jesus… we argue around here about language that dehumanizes people and whether you should use it or not. If one of us could fire a mortar round at Mar-a-lago would it be much different?

Ya, I’m being provocative, I’m a social science teacher, it’s my job. (Thank God I don’t live in Florida)
