Daily Bucket - Red-shouldered Hawk surprise. [1]

There were a lot of Orchard Orioles, Carolina Wrens, Blue Jays, Mockingbirds and Summer Tanagers flitting around the perched predator. The alarms and attacks by the nesting birds was intense. I could see the concern on the hawk’s face and tried to capture it on film.
We were able to get a few still photos of the villain beauty before it fled to the neighboring field. I wish I had thought to get a video of the noise and confusion (it was impressive). I did get the three photos I am showing today (out of the dozen I shot).
My first instinct was to field ID it as a Red-tail Hawk (thinking I was seeing a “belly band” (a Nook nudge). Closer inspection of the breast feather pattern and upper wing feather design led me to believe it was a Red-shouldered. Both are the most common hawk species in my area.
Hearing the “screeching” of Red-shoulders all day helped as well for identification. Here is a short 30 second video I took in January of 2019 that has a young Red-shouldered hawk responding to crows harassing it. This was the hawk calls of yesterday.

The Bug of the Day was inside my truck when I was headed home. Here is a Tansy Beetle (Chrysolina graminis). It is the size of a Ladybug and Metallic green when the sun shines upon it. Named after it’s preferred food source and it can be found near bodies of water.
Sorry the photo is so bad. I still haven’t gotten my camera situation resolved.
