My trees and me, a mystery story [1]

I wanted to share this story with you because I always trust your judgement and wisdom. It does not have to do with politics, religion or anything else. OK: when I was a little girl in Costa Rica, we lived in a house that had a backyard, not too big. It had a stream on one side running parallel to the back of the house and maybe 40 feet from it. On the left end, there was a mango tree, close to a fence made of zinc with some wood slats in the middle. So, the tree had that fence that belonged to the neighbor behind it but close. I loved that backyard. There were also two other trees, to the right of the mango tree. One was full of sweet lemons (a fruit that only grow in Costa Rica), they look like lemons, but they are sweet, and the other was in front of this one. I discovered how to climb the mango tree. It had a thick branch that was like a chair. So, I would sit there with a Jules Verne novel, and I would reach out, get a mango and continue reading. I would also come down and get a sweet lemon or a sour lemon and ate it with salt. I spent a lot of time in that place, because I enjoyed being alone with my books. Well, we did not need to water those trees, in 17 years we were there. It rains a lot in Costa Rica, plus, there was the stream. My father sold that place and we moved. One day, maybe about two years I went there to see my trees. They were all dead. The stream was fine though. I did not think about this until a week ago. I was reading something, and it hit me. Did the trees die of grief?
I am a scientist and agnostic, however, I wonder about nature. Are we connected? Like with trees and animals? All I know is that I feel sad about my trees after 50 years or so.
Let me know if I am crazy.
